Dr. Sybil Camille Mitchell, affectionately known as “MISSY”, 66 of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Methodist University Hospital. Sybil was born November 9, 1956, in Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Jimmie J. Fields and Mable L. (McCullough) Fields. She was a gifted author, writer, reporter, singer, and a true Minister of GOD. Sybil was a Minister of the Wisdom, Knowledge and Understanding Ministries, an associate of the New Tri-State Defender, and a community advocate teaching young children how to Write through her seminars. She devoted her life to spreading GOD’s words, kindness, and Love for everyone.
Sybil attended Norris Elementary, Corry Junior High, and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1974. She accepted a scholarship from Vanderbilt University Nashville Tennessee and graduated with a degree in Journalism. She continued coursework at Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She later moved to Orlando, Florida where she continued her education, and received her Doctoral degree, studied the Bible, and was called into the ministry. Sybil spent time creating Writing Workshops for Children and led Bible Seminars Ministers of Memphis and surrounding areas.
Sybil leaves to cherish her legacy: 3 Sisters: Marcia Mitchell-Maness (Richard), Michelle Fields-Hall (Hollis), Crystal Fields; 1 Brother: Steven Fields; 1 Sister -in-Law: Charlotte Jackson; 2 Nieces: Mia Davis (Isaiah), Evan Fields; 2 Nephews: Sean Jackson, Jason Fields; 2 Grandnieces: McKinney Davis, Isabelle Davis; 1 Grandnephew: Ayden Fields; and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends Thursday, October 12, 2023 1:00pm for a memorial service at Brown Missionary Baptist Church 980 Stateline Rd E, Southaven, MS 38671
