Vincent Earl Harris, fondly known to all who loved him as "Vint" and some called him "Red," was welcomed with joy as the firstborn son to Edna Reed and Willie Earl Turner on Dicey Plantation in Webb, Mississippi, October 8, 1962. Edna later married Charles Harris and he so loved Vint that he could not wait to adopt him as his very own son. Vincent suddenly had the love of two fathers. He was always surrounded by layers of love.
Vincent was affectionately nurtured in the church and he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was saved and baptized and more recently re-dedicated his life to Christ in September of 2014.
Vint attended the public schools in St. Louis, Missouri and matriculated at Normandy High School before graduating from the Job Corps in Popular Bluff, Missouri in the class of 1980. He was certified as a Master Welder and both worked and trained others in welding. Many of the structures we take for granted today are the result of his sacrificial expertise in welding artistry.
Vint embodied the love of Christ in his daily walk with his radiating smile that would draw even a stranger. He had a heart of gold that was the size of Texas and so loved because he could light up a room with his charm. His ministry was in serving and helping others, even in his failing health. He truly was a good man. He enjoyed fishing and growing plants, but he took special pleasure in growing his tomatoes and comparing his green thumb to his mother’s.
He had a great love for Westerns and Crime shows, animals, sports, RAM Trucks, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and was Old School to his core. He was a master chef and everyone loved his cooking. He had the wisdom of Solomon and the strength of Samson. If you knew him, you know he loved the Kansas City Chiefs, especially when they won the Super Bowl. However, that never came close to the love he had for his family. He became the proud father of his three children he treasured, Tabatha, Shane and Caitlin. His legacy and circle of love was growing. At his first sight of Brenda, Vint said, “I’m going to marry you!” On September 14, 2014, Vint was united in holy matrimony to Brenda Taylor. This union expanded his circle of family and friends and provided an anchor for him in Memphis, Tennessee. Let us remember that Vint was a walking miracle and God put him on display for the world to see. When he recovered from his heart attack and stroke three years ago, he moved to Texas to be near his mother. It was a full circle of grateful love.
Vint leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life: wife, Brenda; his beloved mother, Edna Harris; sisters, Anita Harris and Barbara Harris; brother, Chris Harris; daughter, Tabatha Grothoff (Lawrence); son, Shane (Jordan); daughter, Caitlin; niece, Barbara Harris “Bee Bee”; five grandchildren, Stevie; Anderson; McKay Redd; Isabella, and Zakary, sisters, Latasha and Michelle Jackson; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family and cherished friends. Vint was preceded in death by: his grandson, Bronson and his fathers, Charles Harris and Willie Earl Turner. To God be the Glory!
