Manning, SC
Alexander A. Thompson, Sr. son of the late Booker T. Fleming, Jr. and Etha Mae Thompson was born August 12, 1965 in Manning, South Carolina.
“Alex” as he was affectionately called by his family and friends received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County.
At an early age, he joined Holly Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he served on all choirs, the Usher Board and as a Trustee. He was also a former member of the Springhill Masonic Lodge #188.
“Alex” was a jack of all trades but he found his calling in the health care field at Clarendon Memorial Hospital where he worked until his health declined.
His greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends, playing his keyboard and singing quartet music. He began his quartet journey as a member of the Sons of Faith of Manning, South Carolina and later joined the Heavenly Stars of Manning, South Carolina. His favorite songs were “Do you know the man” and “I can’t give up”. “Alex” will truly be missed by his family and friends. He was joined in holy matrimony to Carolyn Bennett Thompson and to this union one daughter and one son was born.. On Saturday, December 25, 2021, God called and Alexander A. Thompson, Sr. answered at McLeod Hospice House, Florence, South Carolina. He leaves to cherish his precious memories, a loving and devoted wife of thirty-four years, Carolyn Thompson of the home; two daughters, Veronica Thompson and Shayla Bennett both of Manning, SC; one son, Alexander Thompson, Jr. of Manning, SC; one sister, Ayanna Fleming of Manning, SC; two brothers, Franklin Thompson of Manning, SC and Bernard (Daphne) Holliday of Florence, SC; paternal grandmother, Everlena Fleming of Manning, SC; one granddaughter, Savannah Thompson of Manning, SC; three grandsons, Alexander “JuJu” Thompson, SynʹCere Thompson and Tyron Space all of Manning, SC; special friend of the family, Latia Blackwell of Manning, SC; four brothers-in-law, Lawrence (Louise) Bennett, King (Deloris) Bennett, Jr., Clyde (Arlene) Bennett; Sheldon (Rochelle) Bennett; two sisters-in-law, Beulah (Joseph) Holliday and Beverly (Quentin) Durant; four aunts, Lula Thompson, Lottie Fleming, Bobbie Wilson and Shirley Canty all of Manning, SC; three uncles, Wendell Fleming and Milton (Carolyn) Fleming both of Manning, SC and Earl Wilson of Miami, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Public viewing was held from 4:00PM til 6:00PM Friday, December 31, 2021 at Hayes F. Samuels, Sr. Memorial Chapel 114 N. Church Street, Manning SC.
Funeral services were held 11:00AM Saturday, January 1, 2022 at the Matrix Center, 648 Kingstree Hwy, Manning, SC. Dr. Michael L. Richburg, officiated; Pastor Antonio Green, Pastor Betty Cantey, Minister Roberta Pendergrass and Rev. Michael Abraham, assisted. Burial followed in the Holly Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 1304 Hidden Branch Road Dr., Manning, SC.
The family is received friends at his residence, 1100 Foxbrook Lane, Manning, SC
