Bertha Mae began her Christian walk with God at Green Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Alcolu, South Carolina, where she served as a faithful and devoted member until she left to attend college. This early foundation in faith shaped her spiritual journey and remained central throughout her life. Bertha Mae was a proud graduate of Voorhees College and was the first in her family to earn a college degree, a milestone that reflected her determination and vision for a brighter future. While at Voorhees College, she was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. After graduating college, she relocated to New York, where she built a full and meaningful life grounded in hard work, service, and community. While in New York, she met Ulysee Huling Jr., and from their union were born three children, who became the center of her world. For nearly 40 years, Bertha Mae was a devoted member of Lowly Nazarene Baptist Church, where she faithfully served under four pastors. Throughout her years of service, she held multiple leadership roles, including Trustee, Church Treasurer, Choir Member, and was very active in the Culinary and Floral Ministries. Her dedication to the church reflected her deep faith, generosity, and commitment to serving others. She was also a dedicated professional, having worked at BronxCare Health System (formerly known as Bronx Lebanon Hospital) for almost 40 years, where she exemplified loyalty, compassion, and excellence. In addition to her career in healthcare, Bertha Mae was known for her entrepreneurial spirit and generosity, having prepared taxes for hundreds of clients throughout New York, helping families and individuals with care, integrity, and trust. Bertha Mae was a breast cancer survivor, facing her journey with remarkable strength, resilience, and faith, inspiring all who knew her through her courage and perseverance. Deeply engaged in her community, Bertha Mae was an active member of the National Action Network for five years and a lifetime active member of the Jerome A. Greene Democratic Club for eight years, always striving to make a positive difference. She lived her life to the fullest, with no regrets, finding joy in music and dancing, and delighting in moments that brought people together. A proud mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, she cherished her family and valued meaningful connections. She was also well known for her love of sports, especially basketball, baseball, and football. Bertha Mae was preceded in death by her siblings James Henry Bell, John Benjamin Bell, Harold Bell, William Bell, Ida Bell Gillens, Minnie Lee Bell, and Robert Bell Jr. She is survived by her two sons, Ulysee Huling III and Andre Huling; her daughter, Tiffany Huling; her daughter-in-law, Cheron Huling; her beloved grandchildren, Keely Huling and Kadin Huling; and a host of loving nieces and nephews. Bertha Mae Bell will be remembered for the joy and kindness she brought to others, for her unwavering faith, and for the lasting legacy of love, service, and strength she leaves with her family, friends, and community
