Dave Ali Fleming, Sr. answered Godβs call on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at McLeod Regional Hospital in Florence, SC. He was born on May 6, 1949 in the Wilson Community of Clarendon County. He was the son of Everlena Bennett Fleming and the late Booker T. Fleming Sr.
Dave attended Wilson Elementary School and graduated from Manning Training High School in 1968, where he played football. After high school, he entered the Job Corps before being drafted into the Army in 1968. He completed two tours in Vietnam, during which he fought in the Vietnam War. Dave completed his military service at Fort Benning, Columbus, Georgia and was honorably discharged in January, 1975. He moved back home to Manning and attended Williamsburg Tech, Kingstree, South Carolina where he became a certified electrician, he later established his own business, Dave Fleming & Son Electric. Dave was an active member in the Biggers Community. He was a lifelong member of Biggers AME Church. He was the Pro Tem of the Trustee Board for many years and a member of the male chorus. At one point, Dave also enjoyed singing quartet. Dave was also a member of Masonic Lodge 99. He also organized the Biggers Braves baseball team.
Dave loved people and doing for others. He loved hosting cookouts, watching sports and hanging out with the fellows in his Man Cave. It always brought him joy having the family come together.
In 1971, Dave married his wife of 50 years, Lotte Henry Fleming. In this union, they were blessed with three children, Teresa Fleming (Arif Dantzler) of Philadelphia, PA, Dave Fleming Jr. (Armetria) of Charlotte, NC, and Maurice Fleming (Laravia) of Sumter, SC. Dave has eight grandkids and two great-grands. He leaves to cherish his legacy and loving memories are his wife, Lottie; children, Teresa, DJ and Maurice; grandchildren; his mother, Everlena; two brothers, Milton (Carolyn) and Wendell; three sisters, Shirley, Bobbie Gale, and Bertina; one brother-in- law, Earl Wilson; a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Preceding him in death was his two brothers, Stanley and Booker T. Jr. and one sister, Liddia Wilson.
Funeral services for Mr. Fleming will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Hayes F. Samuels, Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 North Church St., Manning, SC. Burial will follow in Muldrow Cemetery, Manning, SC.
The family is receiving friends at his residence, 1955 Kingstree Hwy., Manning, SC.
