Michael Joseph Baker, was born in Manning, South Carolina to Annie Singleton Baker and Joseph Ravenel Baker on December 6, 1977 and departed this life on July 26, 2021. He was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia Singleton.
He attended the Clarendon County District 2 school system and graduated from Manning High School.
He began his career as a Correctional Officer at Clarendon County Detention Center for 15 years and later became an Independent Insurance Agent through Kemper Life Insurance. At an early age, Michael accepted Christ and later joined Grace Cathedral to worship/fellowship via video-services after moving away to Maryland.
He was a member of Golden Gate Lodge #78 of Gable, South Carolina.
Michael was an avid reader, sports enthusiast, great debater and advocate for many great Charities and Causes.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Annie Singleton Baker of Gwynn Oak, MD; his father, Joseph (Sarah) Ravenel Baker of Manning, SC; one sister, Arlene (Trent Nims) Baker of Gwynn Oak, MD; four brothers: Joseph (Ingrid) Baker, Jr. and Tony Baker both of Bridgeport, CT, Kenneth Miller of Lancaster, CA, Rodney (Maria) Miller of Laurelton, NY; four step-siblings, Edna L. Jackson, Eugene Jackson and Terrell Jackson all of Bridgeport, CT and Quincy Jackson of Manning, SC; four aunts, Mattie Belle Emmanuel of Red Springs, NC, Dorothy Gamble of Port Charlotte, FL, Rosa Lee (Charlie) Gamble of New Zion, SC and Alice (Stanley) Durant of Manning, SC; two uncles, Franklin Foster of Chesterfield, SC and Therion (Mary) Baker of Reading, PA; one adopted aunt, Essie Montgomery, New Zion, SC; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, classmates and colleagues who will sorely miss his presence. Public viewing was held from 4:00pm til 6:00PM Friday, August 6, 2021 at Hayes F. Samuels, Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St., Manning, SC.
Funeral services for Mr. Baker were be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Grace Cathedral, 60 Oswego Hwy., Sumter, SC. Bishop Anthony Gibson, Pastor, officiated; Burial will follow in the St. John AME Church Cemetery, Workman Community, Kingstree, SC.
