Robert “Bobby” Currie, the third of four siblings was born October 10, 1941 to the late Lena Cooper Currie in Elizabethtown, North Carolina and entered eternal rest on December 12, 2021 at the age of 80.
“Bobby” confessed to Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Second Baptist Church in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
He attended Ann Chestnutt Colored High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He entered the United States Army in 1965. He served his country well from 1965-1992. While in the Army, he served in the Vietnam War and retired as a First Sergeant in 1992.
In 1960, Robert “Bobby” met and married the former Gertrude Freeman and this union was blessed with four children.
On July 25, 1988, he was blessed again to find love and married a phenomenal woman, the former Betty Mickens of Turbeville, South Carolina. They were blessed with a union of 33 years. In this union, he was blessed with a daughter. Betty continued to love and comfort him once he became ill.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Ella Jean Currie Martin and two brothers, Billy F. Currie and James Currie.
Those left to carry on his legacy are his wife, Betty M. Currie; two daughters, Deborah Currie Dutch, Clayton, NC and Casey Currie, Greenville, SC; five sons: Michael Andrew Currie, Fredericksburg, VA, Mitch Anthony Currie, Raleigh, NC, Robert Currie, Jr. Fayetteville, NC, Scott (Mayra) Smith, Hanover, MD and Anthony (Sonya) Pearson, Gaston, SC; thirteen grandchildren, Ashley (Eddie) Staples, Michael Currie, Jr., Johnny Dutch, Ayana Smith, Denota (Shenterrra) Webb, Cameron Smith, Tayor Currie, Kenan Currie, Samrai Pearson, Serenity Stewart, Dayma Smith, Caleb Pearson, Skylar Pearson; five great grandchildren, Edwin Staples, John Robert Staples, Joy Staples, Chase Mickey and Amon Webb; two sisters-in-law, Lucille (Earl) Webster and Theresa (Jimmy) Belton; four brothers-in-law, Ledon (Sheila) Mickens, Chris Mickens, Gerald (Shonda) Mickens and Terry (Layisha) Mickens; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Public viewing was held from 4:00 PM til 6:00 PM Friday, December 17, 2021 at Hayes F. Samuels Sr., Memorial Chapel, 114 North Church St., Manning, SC.
Funeral services were held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Hayes F. Samuels, Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 North Church St., Manning, SC, Elder Mary Nesmith officiated. Burial followed in the Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Turbeville, SC
Due to COVID-19, there was no visitation except for the immediate family at his residence, 6850 Myrtle Beach Hwy., Gable, SC.

Betty, Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal. Please take comfort in Revelation 21:4. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.There will be no more death, or mourning or crying or pain. Bob was a man of unparalleled courage and integrity.
