Mrs. Sadie Jean McFadden Whitehead, was born as the second of eight children of the late Phillip McFadden, Sr. and the late Fannie Junious McFadden on October 7th, 1949 in the New Zion Community of Clarendon County. After a short illness, Sadie was transported from her home to Lexington Hospice House, Lexington, SC where she passed peacefully.
She received her formal education in Clarendon County Public Schools, specifically, Walker-Gamble High School in New Zion, SC.
She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Howard Chapel A.M.E. Church in New Zion, SC. Later, she attended Supernatural Deliverance, Apostle Phillip O Coleman Church, and Mt Moriah UME Church, Alcolu, SC. She served in various capacities in various churches where she previously resided in Richmond, VA and Scotland Neck, NC.
Sadie was married to the late Thurman Whitehead, Sr. She leaves to cherish her memories, a son, Thurman Whitehead, Jr. (Brianna Selby), and grandchild of the heart, Elijah Gilmore, of Greenville, SC; six sisters, Phillis Canty of the home, Stella L. Burgess, and Gladys Burgess, of Philadelphia PA, Joe Ann (Nathaniel) Baker of New Zion, SC, Joyce Taylor of Greenville, SC, Clarice McFaddin, of Sumter, SC. One brother, Phillip (Dena) McFadden Jr., of Winston-Salem, NC, one god Brother George W. Hardy, Jr. of Turbeville, SC, many nieces and nephews; Ronald L. Brown and Barbara Bamba, of Philadelphia, PA, Leonard (Kristen) McFadden, of Greenville, SC, Keyanna S. (Vincent) Brooks, of Sumter, SC, and Nathaniel (Janelya) Baker Jr. of Spencer NC, and Angela and Shayna McFadden, of Winston-Salem, NC, a special cousin, loved as a sister, Betty (Louie) Dicks of Columbia, SC, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a niece and nephew.
A special thank you to Hospice Care Nurses and Staff at Amedisys Home Health/Hospice Care, Agape Hospice Care, South Carolina House Call, Lexington Hospice House: Thanks to the many nurses, aides, chaplain, therapists, social workers, EMS personnel who have assisted, prayed, and even made us laugh sometimes. There are too many to name, so thank you to all.
There will be a private family memorial service 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Hayes F. Samuels, Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 North Church St., Manning, SC.
