Alcolu, SC
Shirley Taylor Evins, was born November 30, 1937, in Alcolu, South Carolina to the late James (Jimmy) Blackwell and Annie Mae Harrison Lights and reared by the late Linwood Evans and Mattie T. Evans. She received her formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County.
At an early age, she joined the Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, Alcolu, South Carolina where she accepted God as her personal Savior. After moving to Norwalk, Connecticut, she joined the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in East Norwalk, Connecticut. There, she was a member of the Gospel Chorus and served as a Deaconess. After moving back to Alcolu, South Carolina, she rejoined the Mt.Nebo Missionary Baptist Church family as a Deaconess and served on Floral Committee, Mother Board, Kitchen Committee, Gospel Choir and Mass Choir.
She was employed by GDC Electronics, Danbury, Connecticut as a circuit board technician and later promoted to supervisor. Shirley had what most would consider a healing spirit. One whose heart was built to be a caregiver for many. Whether family or friend, there was always room in her home and foo on her table for all. She taught her family to trust God and always put him first. Her walk with God is truly an example for all. She was joined in holy matrimony to her childhood sweetheart, the late Hazel Evins, Jr. and this union was blessed with two children. A daughter, Joyce Evins Dozier, preceded her in death. On Saturday, January 8, 2022, God in his infinite wisdom called his faithful servant, Shirley Taylor Evins, to rest from her labors, at the Prisma Health Toumey Hospital, Sumter, South Carolina.
She was proceeded in death by five sisters: Eunice Blackwell Witherspoon, Elouise Blackwell Moses, Janie Blackwell White, Onetta McFadden, and Dorothy Mae Rose; a son-in-law, Pressley Harvin, Jr.; a special aunt, Bertha Jones. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories her baby girl, Adrienne Evins Harvin of the home; a son, Michael (Jinny) Franklin, Bridgeport, CT; one sister, Celestine Myers, Alcolu, SC; a brother, Emanuel Blackwell, Alcolu, SC; a brother-in-law, Heyward Moses, Alcolu, SC; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Evins, Alcolu, SC; a son-in-law, Barney (Jackie) Dozier, Manning, SC; five grandchildren; Deneia (Jason Streety) Dozier, Sumter, SC, Jorayia (Charles) Dozier Hall, Alcolu, SC, Felicia Dozier, Waco, TX, Pressley Harvin, III, Pittsburgh, PA, Hazel Harvin, Alcolu, SC; six beautiful great-granddaughters; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Aunt Shirley you will be greatly missed I'm lost for words Don't know what to say Guess God planned it this way Although she's gone but not for good She's standing at the gates entering a new neighborhood where all faces are familiar of loved ones we so miss Greeting her with open arms and smiles of bliss Rest in peace auntie love you From your nephew Dwayne Evans

Your family has been an inspiration to me and my family for many years. You all were there to help me when I didn't have any one else. MRS Shirley was grandmother to my grandkids.
