Obituary For Amparo Rodriguez Polendo

Amparo Rodriguez Polendo was born on February 6, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas and went to be with our Lord on May 11, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 79. She proudly raised six children and helped to raise several of her grandchildren. Amparo was very involved with her church, Casa Del Rey, and was very close to her church family. She faithfully attended prayer meetings every Tuesday, mid-week services on Wednesday, helped with the food pantry on Friday, volunteered for special events on the weekend and attended the Spanish church service every Sunday. Amparo loved her family with all her heart. She always went above and beyond to help anybody and everybody that she could, and she did not expect anything in return. Her unwavering love and devotion shone everywhere she went. She made lasting impressions on everyone she met by making them laugh. She was funny, spirited, dependable, loving, caring, classy, sassy and a little bit spicy. She had a sense of humor that would surprise you and make you blush. She was a true and devoted Cowboys and Spurs fan. She loved her teams and proudly sported her gear for football and basketball seasons all year round. Amparo, who lovingly went by “Cookie” or “Gma Cookie” to her grandkids, enjoyed a variety of music which included Oldies but Goodies, Christian artists like Lauren Dagle and old hymns from her upbring like The Old Rugged Cross, and of course, her favorite country music artist, George Strait. She loved all the Spurs, from David Robinson, Tim Duncan and Tony Parker to our newest Spur, Victor “Wemby” Wembanyama. She can be heard every game cheering “Go Spurs Go” and “Defense, Defense, Defense” with all the energy she could muster. She will always be remembered by “Cookie” and “Gma Cookie”. She had a heart of gold, and you couldn’t help but be happy around her. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends as well as her church family. She also loved baking and made everything from scratch. She has left a legacy of unconditional love and forgiveness for her family to follow.

Amparo Rodriguez Polendo is preceded in death by her parents, Silvestre Rodriguez, and Maria DeLeon Rodriguez; former spouse Luiz Rosas Polendo; and son-in-law, Jimmy Rodriguez. She is survived by her children; sons, Luiz R. Polendo Jr., Ricardo Polendo and wife Denisse Colon-Polendo; daughters, Monica Polendo Elizondo and husband Alfred J. Elizondo, Angelica Polendo Esparza, Amparo Polendo-Bowling and husband Gary Bowling, and Graciana Polendo Rodriguez; grandchildren, Katherine Bradshaw and husband David Bradshaw, Danielle J. Your mother's beautiful smile and joyful spirit will always be remembered. I loved hearing the stories about her love for the Spurs, getting her nails done, and all the fun memories you made with her. It was clear how deeply loved and cared for she was. Angelica, my thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Sending my deepest condolences and sincere respects. Amparo wasn't my grandma but she would always treat me as if she were. She was always in high spirits and always welcoming to anyone around her. I feel very fortunate to have met her and grateful for all the memories I shared with her. Amparo even attended my wedding not too long ago, sharing a dance with me and smiled all night long as she enjoyed the evening festivity with her family. I will never forget these moments and will cherish them for the rest of my life. Amparo, you will be deeply missed, may your memory remain a source of comfort and strength for all those who were touched by your life.

Sincerely, JZ
