Obituary For Joseph Bess, Jr.

Joseph Bess Jr., age 70 of Valdosta, Georgia passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at South Georgia Medical Center Valdosta, Georgia.

He was born on November 19, 1952 to the late Joseph Bess Sr. and Laila Mae Jackson Bess. Both proceeded him in death.

During his early years of childhood, he was raised by his grandparents Theodore and Henrietta Jones. He attended Westside High School.

Joseph accepted Christ at an early age at St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal Church.

He joined the United States Army on August 15, 1972 where he served for four years. After leaving the United States Army he resided in Kansas City, Kansas where he drove the Greyhound Bus for several years.

He returned to Valdosta May 1982, where he loved farming. The family lovingly called him by his nickname “Juney” loved to see things grow. He worked on farms in Quitman and Boston, Georgia. His favorite pastime were fishing and gardening.

He leaves to cherish his memories one son Joseph Gerard Bess (Ebony) one grandson Prince Bess of Valdosta, GA; four sisters Joyce Bess-Clark, Dianne Bess-Belcher, of Valdosta, GA, Satira Bess-Harris of Kansas City, Missouri, and Anita Bess-Armstrong of Valdosta, GA; one niece, seven nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Juney was loved and will be missed by his family, and a host of others. “Rest well thy good and faithful servant for your work on this earth is done.”

Graveside service for Mr. Joseph Bess, Jr. will be held on Saturday, April 22 at 11:00 A. M. at Walls Cemetery with Rev. Kelly Faulk officiating. Due to limited seating, please bring your chair and umbrella. Public viewing will be held on Friday, April 21 from 11:00 A. M. til 7:00 P. M. Blessings
