Obituary For Katherine Flannigan
With deep sorrow and immense love, we celebrate the life and legacy of Katherine Louise Flannigan, who passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, at the age of 92.
Katherine was born on October 1, 1932, in Valdosta, Georgia, to John and Frances Roberts, both of whom preceded her in death. She was one of six children, and she is now reunited in eternity with her beloved siblings: David Roberts, John Roberts, Freddie Roberts, and Edgar Roberts. She leaves behind her cherished sister, Dorothy Jean White of Columbus, Maryland, who mourns her deeply.
Katherine was the devoted wife of the late Charlie Mack Flannigan, with whom she shared 70 loving years of marriage until his passing on April 1, 2024. Together, they raised eight children, each of whom was the joy of Katherine’s life:, Curtis Flannigan (Venita), Wesley Flannigan (Drusilla), Joyce Rosette (Rev. Rosette), Felix Flannigan, Tony Flannigan (Katie), Judy Flannigan (the late Charles). Charles Flannigan (Gloria) and Tiffany Graham (Neal).
She was also a proud grandmother to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren—each of whom can share stories of how she made them feel seen, loved, and special. Her legacy of kindness, guidance, and high expectations lives on in each of them.
Katherine's extended family includes numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. To know her was to feel her warmth, gentleness, and unwavering compassion. Her signature trait—kindness to all—left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.
Katherine accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age at River Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Valdosta. She later moved to Tucson, Arizona, where she furthered her education and earned her GED through El Rio Neighborhood Center. Katherine continued her spiritual service at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Tucson, where she was active in the choir, Missionary Society, Sunday School, Deaconess Board, Baptist Training Union, and participated in both state and national conventions.
Professionally, Katherine enjoyed a long and successful career in the culinary field at the University of Arizona. Starting from humble beginnings as a table busser, she worked her way up to become the manager of the university’s largest and most successful dining facility. Under her leadership, the dining hall flourished. Known for her professionalism, integrity, and compassion, she was deeply respected by coworkers and students alike.
After retiring, Katherine returned to Valdosta to care for her aging mother. She rejoined River Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained active in the Missionary Society, Sunday School, and Deaconess Board, and was a loyal supporter and friend of Pastor and First Lady Troope.
Katherine was a woman of great faith. Her favorite scripture was:
Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.”
One of her favorite gospel songs was:
“You Can’t Hurry God” – a reminder that God is never late and always right on time.
Katherine’s life was a testament to grace, resilience, and unwavering kindness. As she often said:
"Be real. Don’t play with God. Be kind to all—even when they are unkind to you."
A celebration of life for Sister Katherine Flannigan will be held on Saturday, May 10 at 11:00 at River Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Troope pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Pallbearer Cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Friday, May 9 from 4:30P. M. TIL 7:00 P. M. Mom always treated me as a son but would always refer to me as Rev. I will always cherish our talks and her beautiful smile. We often talked about Jesus and His goodness towards us and the family. She never failed to ask about our daughter's children, especially the two youngest boys. We would laugh about the fun times we had. As I write this tears are coming to my eyes, but I am happy she's gone home to be with the Lord. I always told her that "Eyes have not seen, ears have not heard nor has it enter the mind of men what God has in store for His people ". Enjoy it all Mom. See you later. Love you 💜 Rev. My condolences to the Flannigan family. Mrs Flannigan was always so nice when I was in her presence and always made me feel welcomed. I will cherish those times with her. It's so hard losing a loved one and especially a Mom. Lean on the good memories and things will get better in time. Know that she is at her final home and pain free, with loved ones. To all of my cousins. I will truly miss Katherine we had a close relationship. We keep intouch by phone, and I visited occasionally. She was married to my 1st cousin Charlie Mack. I will always remember her. She would have something to say that would make you laugh. I am going to miss you.love always Beulah.
To my Father, Uncles, and Aunties- This past year has not been good to us. My grandma is leaving a legacy and it is time to put in the work. I love you all and WE really got this. Since she has left us I have been reading Proverbs 3:5-6 which is one of verses highlighted in many of her Bibles in the house.
