Obituary For Michael Branham, Sr.

Michael Lynn Branham, Sr., also known as Mr. Bubba, was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on October 15, 1955, to Florence Tipton Branham. The second youngest of five children (Naomi, Don, the late Wendell, and Henry), Michael was a good son and brother and often spent time teaching and protecting his siblings. Michael grew up in Oklahoma City and went to Douglass High School (Class of 1973) and later attended Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma.

In 1970, Michael met the love of his life, Dorothy Webb. After meeting in Langston, they married, moved to Oklahoma City, and started a family. Michael worked for Quad Graphics Worldwide, one of the largest printing companies in the world. He was a supervisor and managed a team who operated the printing press. His work was essential to the production of many newspapers, catalogs, advertising inserts, and brochures.

In his free time, he loved playing basketball, working out, and spending quality time with his family. One of his favorite hobbies was basketball. He loved participating and running basketball tournaments all over OKC. He was a half-court wonder and was known for hitting 3-pointers. He even worked part-time at Woodson Gym just to be close to the sport. But it wasn’t just the sport, he loved the people…the staff, the kids, the camaraderie, and the energy around it.

Michael was a dedicated family man. A great father who loved his children dearly and showed it through his actions as he supported their activities and encouraged their curiosities and passions. He was the cool dad, and all his children’s friends knew and loved him. Everyone called him by his basketball nickname, “Mr. Bubba”. He was known for his long long talks…sharing his wonderful words of wisdom. It was important for him to share his life experiences and perspectives. The goal for this gentle giant was to connect, motivate and inspire those who were fortunate enough to share a conversation with him. He knew no strangers.

After years in Oklahoma, Michael and Dorothy moved to Valdosta, Georgia in 2002. Michael continued his career in the printing press industry working with the Valdosta Daily Times. Michael always connected with the community and that did not change when he moved to Valdosta and worked at the Mildred Hunter Community Center. He enjoyed greeting the participants at the center and often played in their basketball tournaments. He was a mentor to local youth and participated often in the Center’s youth events.

Michael leaves a legacy of love and everlasting memories with his wife of fifty-three years, Dorothy Annette Webb Branham; his children Simone Branham Bailey (Steven), James and Michael Branham; his sister Naomi O’Hare and brothers Don & Henry Branham; his grandchildren Layla, Sadey and CayLeigh Branham and other devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Home going service for Mr. Michael Branham, Sr. will be held on Friday, May 12 at 1:00 P. M. at Scott and Roberts Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Norman Edwards officiating, and burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
