Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. Proverbs 31:10
Lizzie Demps Daniels was born in Brooks County, GA on December 26, 1924, to the late RJ Demps and Leila Denson Demps. Lizzie’s journey in this life ended on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at her home in Valdosta, GA where she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and family friends. She lived a blessed 99 years and is now resting eternally in “the Hands of the Lord.”
She attended Sweetfield Baptist Church in Brooks County as a child and later attended Alpha and Omega Holiness Church in Valdosta, GA. She was employed as a housekeeper for several years before her retirement.
Lizzie’s love for her family and her concern for others were without measure. She was a faithful and loving wife to her husband Charlie Jack Daniels until his death in 1998. To this union six children were born: Mary, Charles, Maggie, Robert, Theodore, and Shirley. A hardworking, dedicated, protective mother, she always put her family first.
Her nurturing spirit was developed at an early age. She assumed the responsibility of watching over and taking care of her siblings when they were growing up and continued to assist in the caregiving of her baby sister “Sis” until her health failed a few years ago.
A true example of Jesus’s commandment in Matthew 22:39 “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself,” Lizzie was known for her humble spirit and her willingness to serve and assist others. She loved sitting on her front porch and holding conversations with neighbors and friends. She also enjoyed raking her front yard and sharing stories of her childhood.
In addition to her husband and parents, Lizzie was proceeded in death by her sister, Mary Patterson; brothers, RJ Demps, ElijahDemps, and Jerry Demps; daughter, Maggie Gates, daughter –in-law, Mary Demps; grandchildren, Nathan Gates, ShantanaArnold and Matthew Zachary Moss.
She will forever be in the hearts of her brother Jack Demps(Mae) and her sister Leila Robinson. Her legacy of love will continue through her children Mary Turner (Albert), Thomasville, GA, Charles Demps (Margurite), Robert Demps (Deborah), Theodore Demps ( Lynette James), Shirley Morrison (Alvin Corker), Valdosta, GA; and through the lives of her grandchildren, Patricia Brundage, Ellis Roundtree, Anthony Roundtree, Charles Demps, Jr, James Daniels, George Gates III, Jason Gates, Tara Demps Moss, India Demps Bradley, Carlos Demps, Sheena Demps, Latoya Demps, Shemeka Morrison, and Johnny Morrison, Jr; her 62 great grandchildren, and 41 great-great grandchildren. She will also be missed by a host of relatives, friends, and neighbors.
Funeral service will be held, Saturday, May 4 at 11:00 A. M. at Mt Calvary Baptist Church on Force Street, Rev. Adams is the pastor and will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Public viewing will be Friday, May 3 from 10:00 A.M til 7:00 P.M.
