PHYLLIS L. TOOLEY
Born May 2, 1930, in Ashville North Carolina to the late Author Logan Sr. and Vassie Little Logan. She was the fourth of seven children. She departed this life on August 9, 2025, at Pruitt of Valdosta.
She was preceded in death by her parent Author Logan Sr. and Vassie Littlejohn Logan; siblings, Jennette Hargraves, Olga Robinson, Elizabeth Logan Ford, Ruth Logan, and Jimmy Logan, and husband James Tooley Sr. and her only birth child James Wilson Tooley Jr.
Phyllis attended Allen High School and graduated in 1949. She was a member of the Rocky Hill Baptist Church where she was baptized under the leadership of H.B. Furguson; she also, played the piano and sung with her siblings in the choir. After graduation, she moved to Ohio to live close to her aunt Frances White where she went to school be a seamstress.
She moved to New York City in 1965 and work as a seamstress and model. She also got her certificate to be a photoemits. Then in 1971 she decided to take the test for the post office passed and was employed in 1971.
She joined as a dedicated member of the Convent Avenue Baptist Church where Rev. M. L. Wilson was the pastor.
She was employed at Brox post office from 1971 till 1981. She transferred to Valdosta, Georgia to be with her husband. Where she was the first Black woman to transfer into the post office in Valdosta, Ga. They all loved her, and they asked her to stand as Supervisor at times. She retired after 20 years of service.
Phyllis married James Tooley Sr. in 1967 and later had one son the late James Wilson Tooley Jr. and they were married over 40.
She also was a member of St. Phillip I.A.M.E Church as a dedicated Christian under her Pastor Eddie C. Edwards. She was part of the usher board, the choir, the missionary board and a true deaconess. She was a dedicated member of the church by opening her doors to her home for all members, pastors, and friends. She also was known for her famous banana pudding.
After retirement she dedicated her life to her church and her family while spending a lot of time with her grandchildren. She has always been a dedicated daughter, sister, niece, cousin, wife, mother, aunt, and friend. But best of all, A CHILD OF GOD.
She leaves to celebrate her passing, her one and only daughter, Julisa Logan Kirkland and three wonderful grandchildren. Logan Kirkland, Deven Kirkland, and Omarion Whitlock. two great -grandchildren, Lovan A’Miracle Kirkland and Logan Jerrod Kirkland Jr. She also leaves a sister-in -law Evelyn Tooley Smith and a dedicated friend and church member Margie Fountain, a dedicated deacon and wife James Fountain Sr. and wife Gloria Fountain, a long-lost niece Terry Lynn Robinson, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of life for Ms. Phyllis Tooley will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 11:00 A. M. at Crossing Jordan Baptist Church Dr. Ronnie Mathis is the the pastor and Dr. W. C. Morgan will officiate. The burial will follow in the Rocky Hill Church Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, Augsut 22 at Scott and Roberts from 1:00 P. M til 4:00 P. M. and then at St. Phillip I.A.M.E. Church from 5:00 P. M. til 7:00 P.M.
