Tekeyla Dionne Cordy, affectionately known as Keyla was born on August 20, 1983. Keyla was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, and friend who touched the lives of many through her intelligence, passion for education, and love for music and animals.
She was the cherished daughter of Linda Penerton and was preceded in death by her father, Carl Penerton.Keyla is survived by her beloved children, Ashari T. Penerton and Isaiah Penerton, and her fur baby Dutch; her loving siblings, Shenara Cordy and Tawarren Cordy; her godsister Andrea Rowe and her adored nieces and nephew, Aniya Mota, Olivia Mota, and Aliyus Mota. She leaves to cherish a special uncle Willie Cordy and a host of other uncles, aunties, cousins, friends, and family members.
Keyla was preceded in death by her grandmother, Lessie Brown and her auntie Sandra Cooper.
Keyla was an exceptional student and athlete, attending West Homestead Elementary,Homestead Middle School, and Cutler Ridge Middle School, where she excelled in track. She graduated from Naples High School in 2002, where she not only played basketball but also earned a scholarship to Florida Gulf Coast University. However, she did not attend.
In 2003, Keyla began her professional career in banking. Her commitment to education continued as she graduated from Virginia College, making the Dean’s List in May 2018. She became customer service certified at SkillPath on December 30, 2019, and completed the Phlebotomy Technician Program on February 19, 2020, obtaining certification from the National Healthcareer Association on July 3, 2020. At the time of her passing, Tekeyla was diligently working towards a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Grand Canyon University.
Keyla's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Her intelligence, warmth, and spirit will be deeply missed. May she rest in peace.
A celebration of life for Ms. Tekeyla Cordy will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 11:00 A. M. at North Valdosta Church of God Rev. Quarterman is the pastor and will officiate. The burial will follow in the Riverview Memorial Garden.
