Alfreda Payne Morris, of Richmond, peacefully entered eternal rest at her loving home surrounded by family members on May 23, 2022 at the age of 85.
Known to many as Freda Payne; to say Alfreda was the life of the party is an understatement as she was THE party wherever she went. Her infectious personality made a lasting impression on all who encountered her. She embodied the true meaning of hospitality, and she was always ready to host the next event – large or small – and she possessed the unique ability to create a good time for all in attendance. Alfreda developed her skill as an event orchestrater early in life and she honed this character trait over the years, even to her last days as she took charge of the process for welcoming visits from family members and friends wishing to celebrate her life, providing her with her flowers while she could still smell them. Alfreda, or Oma as she was affectionately known, will truly be missed. We rejoice however that she enjoyed a full and blessed life, and we celebrate her legacy as her spirit lives on in each of us.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Morris; daughter, Wanda Johnson; parents, Alfred and Annie Payne and siblings, Alfred Payne and Norieta Anderson.
Alfreda leaves to cherish her legacy, her loyal and faithful caregiving team that includes her daughter, Heather Anderson; son-in-love, Glenn Anderson; her “Minnie-Me” granddaughter, Elisabeth-Anne Anderson; one sister, Irene Yarbrough; one sister-in-love, Mary Payne; one son-in-love, Thomas “Rico” Johnson III; grandchildren, Thair, T’ana, and Tapera Johnson; great-grandson, Thomas Johnson IV; nieces and nephews, Lisa Priestly (Roderick), Darryl Watts (Charlene), Gary Watts (Terri-Ann), Aaron Yarbrough, Julie Yarbrough, dedicated niece, Shana Watts-Jones (Charles), Wanda Ross, Faith Drayton, Gloria Taylor (King), Howard Morris III (Denise) and Alfred “Buddy” Braxton Jr. (Monica); a host of great nieces and great nephews, among them her devoted great-niece, Kyra Watson; many cousins and devoted friends, too many to name, among them her life-long friends, Dorothy Mines, Dolores Whitaker, Iris Johnson, and Leonard Howlett (Josephine); God-daughters, Robin Mines and Sybil El’Amin Jones; God-son Derek Johnson, and her Second Baptist Church Family.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) through the memorial page set-up in Alfreda’s name. Our goal is to collect $8,600.00 between now and her 86th birthday, which is July 13th, when a Celebration of Life is being planned. More information to follow. Please join us in honoring her by giving life to others. In addition to monetary donations, there are numerous ways to help NKF in their life-saving efforts.
