I had the privilege of knowing Alvin Jerome Roots Jr or almost twenty years. He was a special and amazing person. He was kind, caring, dependable, hard working and super funny. I could always count on him no matter what. Through good and bad times, he was always there for me. We shared so many wonderful times together and I think back on so many of the funny times we had. He was absolutely wonderful with children and his God daughter Kaitlyn is definitely going to miss her "Daddy Rootsie" and all of the great times they spent together. He was a blessing to me and to anyone who knew him. I take comfort in the fact that he knew how much we loved him and how much he mean to us. There will forever be a missing piece of my heart, now that my Rootsie is gone. Rest well my dear friend...until we meet again. ~Apryl-Dawn

Alvin cared a lot about the individuals he worked with and had a great sense of humor. He loved sports and joking around with others about sports. He loved playing sports and interacting with others as much as possible. He was a "dad" figure to many and provided lots of support and comfort. - day support client

My husband and I are deeply saddened to hear about Alvin's passing. He was a kind and gentle man who was devoted to the intellectually disabled and preformed a difficult job with compassion and professionalism. Our daughter was in his care. She had had a difficult time during covid and this translated into very challenging behaviors. Alvin never gave up on her and for that we a truly grateful. The special needs community has lost one of its angels. Our sincerest sympathies, thoughts and prayers are with his family and co-workers.

Roots as many called him was a great friend and Co-worker. I have seen him first hand change the lives of many youth in the Richmond area. He was great role model and father figure. I am praying for his family and friends.
