Betty Moss Starke, 70, of Richmond, Virginia, affectionately known as "Battle Cat" by her sons, entered eternal rest on Thursday, October 8, 2020. She was born at Ft. Lee, Virginia to Eufrocina Dimatulac Moss and the late Charles Moss, Sr. She graduated from both Queensborough College in Queens, NY and J. Sargeant Reynold’s Community College with Associate’s degrees in both Business and Economics, respectively. She last worked as a machinist at Mondelez (Nabisco). Betty was a faithful election poll worker for over 25 years. Betty was a former runway model for Ebony Fashion Fair. She was an extra in the biopic, “Lincoln” filmed in Richmond. In New York, she was a well-known seamstress. Some would even say that she was a member of the Black Panther party. The one thing Betty was known most for was the love she had for her sons, Rabbit and Jimma. She would do anything to protect them and make their lives as good as possible. Betty was always so proud of her sons and would tell anybody who would listen about them. She had a special bond with her Rabbit and Jimma - they loved her dearly. Betty was preceded in death by her son, William F. Hart, III; father, Charles “Papa C” Moss, Sr.; brothers, Robert Jones and Charles Moss Jr.; sister, Dorthea Moss and her adopted grandfather, James “Mr. Jimmy” Carroll. Left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted son, James “Jimma” Moss (Erika); grandchildren, Zachariah White, Shaquan Herring, Tavaris Turner, William Hart IV and Siena Hart; great-grandchildren, Ayris White, Skylar Herring and Chance Turner; mother, Eufrocina Dimatulace Moss; sisters, Rose Marie Garnett (Lawrence), Virgin Mary Howlett, Veronica Moss and Allene Moss; brothers, Rolando Moss, Clarence Devore (Michelle) and Darryl Devore; devoted partner in life, Carl Boggan; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, one devoted, Kevin Stubbs; other relatives and friends, one devoted, Ann Boggan. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. where viewing will be held Thursday, October 15 from 12 noon until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 16 at Scott's Chapel, 116 E.
