Bynetta McNeill Wiggins

Mrs. Wiggins you were a wonderful Professor and guide through my tenure as a student attending Virginia Union. Thank you for bringing me back as a guest lecturer to your classes as an Alum, it meant the world to me. I will truly miss you.

Cheryl and Family, Trust in the Lord, He will direct Your Path. Your Mother and Beloved family member, Bynetta, was a Caring and very Compassionate person. She was a Loving, Devoted, and Dedicated Member of the NCCU Alumni Association Richmond/Petersburg Chapter. She did whatever she could do to help and Students, and Alumni. During my time at Union she was always pleasant and extremely supportive. She was so excited I wanted to pursue a career as a Business educator. She would always greet me with a smile and leave me encouraging words. Thoughts of her often cross my mind and I feel blessed I was able to cross paths with her! Her infectious smile and beautiful flowing hair will never be forgotten. I met Bynetta through the Lupus Foundation. She was not only my mentor, but my friend. She taught me how to really live with lupus. She served as a shining beacon of hope during the hard times and we celebrated during the good times. We were already planning some outings. But God had other plans. Ms. Wiggins was one of my professors when I attended Virginia Union University. She challenged me to be the educator that I am today. She never hesitated to write a letter of recommendation for me or tell me exactly what I needed to hear when I needed to hear it. I know that she will be greatly missed by former students and colleagues. To the family, I am praying your strength during this time. I had the pleasure of working with Bynetta for many years when I was with the Virginia Department of Education. She was a teacher educator and Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) adviser and provided a great deal of assistance to the business and information technology program and to the PBL student organization. To the Wiggins and McNeill family: We have lost a beautiful light in our Sorority and Neighborhood. Bynetta and I lived across the hall from each other for more than seven years. She drove me to the hospital to have my first baby. Always so kind and helpful, she was a talented seamstress and a good cook. She was a "forever" friend and my boys and I will miss her. Cheryl and Family, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of my beloved Alpha Chi line sister, Bynetta, but happy that I had the opportunity to reunite with her in a virtual reunion celebrating 55 years of sisterhood. Moreover, Bynetta made a powerful contribution to our powerpoint for our reunion. Though she is now an Ivy Beyond the Wall, she remains an Ivy within my heart. My fellow 1966 Alpha Chi sorority intiates are a close knit group and we have comfort in knowing she is watching over us from above. Her line sisters had a prayer session on ZOOM where we asked God to let Bynetta know our love for her. We really believe God shared our sentiment regardless of her condition at the time. Ms. Wiggins is so special. First my professor at Virginia Union University and that relationship transformed into that of a mother and son. She's one of a kind and full of love. She'll be deeply missed but I'm grateful for the memories left to cherish.
