Edward James Hannah Sr., of N. Chesterfield, entered eternal rest Friday, March 25, 2022. He was born in Lake City, South Carolina on April 30, 1942 to Edward and Lucinda Hannah. Edward was the fourth of twelve children and received his education in the public schools of Florence County. He attended Carver High School where he flaunted his love for singing as a member of the AG Quartet singing group. He also played on the football team, where his physical strength earned him the nickname of 'Mule' which stuck with him throughout his life. He moved to Richmond where he met and married his devoted wife of 54 years, Joyce R. Hannah. They raised seven children. He loved motorcycles and rode one for many years. Prior to retiring, another favorite past time of his was bowling and his skills are displayed by the many championship trophies on their fireplace mantel. He was a family man and preferred to spend his quality time with his children and many grandkids who lovingly called him 'Papa'. It was during those countless gatherings that he showcased his love for cooking and unmatched grilling skills. He had a beautiful singing voice and loved to sing, which was even noted by the nurses during his final hospital stay as he would sing while there. His love of baseball and football was evident on game days and especially if his team formally known as the Washington Redskins lost. We are heartbroken and will miss his easy-going conversations and advice, his animated political talks, his catchy phrases and humor, his dancing and singing, and all of our favorite dishes. He is our hero and will forever be in our hearts. Surviving are his loving wife, Joyce Rose Hannah; two sons, Edward Hannah Jr. and Clarence Hannah; five daughters, Demetrius Pittman, Benita Taylor (Jerome), Terri Hannah McDavid (Romanus), Trese Hannah and Alysha Hannah; 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Eddie J Hannah (Sadie); five sisters, Carrie Lawrence (Benson), Ella H. Caldwell (Johnnie Lee), Ruby Robinson, Annie Hannah and Cora Soles (Edward); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; one sister-in-law, Rae Harley; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. where viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 7. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 8 at Scott's Chapel, 116 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Pastor Raymond Overby officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.
