Always sporting his little smile, Geno will be remembered as a truly wonderful man, and a genuinely good guy. Born a fraternal twin on May 14, 1968, Geno was a native New Yorker reared in Brooklyn alongside his 11-minute younger brother Troy. Often dressed in identical fashion, “Geno and Troy” were famous and broadly recognized twin brothers throughout the various neighborhoods where they attracted uncountable friends and acquaintances. As he grew older, Geno matured into a college-educated, well-traveled, well-mannered, hard-working and quiet gentleman, who enjoyed his family life, grilling and the ever-playing jazz music blasting from his prized home surround-sound system. Geno’s warmth, unwavering loyalty, compassionate understanding, and steadfastness cemented his essential role as a constant pillar of support to his family and loved ones. Those qualities drew innumerable people into his orbit, particularly those who comprised his core group of close friends in Virginia, Florida, and Brooklyn. Geno remained true to his professional passion for building industrial-grade heat-transfer systems. Recently, he enrolled in night classes at Fortis College, Richmond, Virginia, to certify for work in HVAC (installation/repair) and was recognized for his scholarship as an Honor Roll student, all while working full-time during the day. Geno left a lasting impression on all those fortunate enough to meet him. He was wellliked, admired, and respected by all who knew him. And to know Geno, was to love Geno! Held dear to his heart, Geno leaves his Children, Granddaughter, Siblings, Family, countless friends, and co-workers. He was loved and treasured by all of us who remain to preserve and cherish his precious memory. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten! On Monday, April 1, 2024, at 3:36pm, Geno texted these words, “despite everything life is amazing and we all should enjoy to the fullest. Tomorrow is not promised.” Let us all heed his prescient message, and truly relish and appreciate the days that the Lord has given us, in loving celebration of our departed brother. Love forever, The Family. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Our deepest condolences to Troy and the entire Coleman family. Our family is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Geno. My brother, Breon, has known Troy and Geno since high school. Since then Geno (along with Troy) has been like family to us. Being Breon's tall little sister, he called me "Stretch". He was known for giving nicknames. 😊 I remember when Geno came to visit and stay with us for a few days, right before Covid came and changed our lives. He was so relaxed, so cool, so loving, especially towards my son who was about 8 years old at the time. I'm glad our family has this as one of our last sweet memories to cherish. Geno, we love you and may rest in eternal peace. ✌🏾😥🙏🏾 Love, Renee, Breon, JoAnn, and the rest of the Melette family. ❤️🕊

My sincere condolences and prayers to the Coleman family. Geno was definitely a person that was the same every time you saw him. He always had a smile on his face and always willing to help others. We met Geno and his family in 1999/2000 when we first moved to Greenwood Glen. He will be truly missed!

I remember when you and your twin, Troy, were born. You both brought such joy to the entire family especially your Tampa Fl family. You grew into an amazing man. You loved family especially your children and blessed us with your genuine amazing presence. Your hands always extended to embrace and encourage others in spite of whatever you were going through. Your smile remained constant. Loosing you and your cousin Lynette within 2 months is unbelievable and unbearable. My only comfort is knowing you earned your wings to heaven and you are now in the arms of love ones gone before you. Your smile is now permanent . Missing your earthly presence and adjusting to the new normal of your absence. Memories will always remain in the hearts in Tampa. RIP ❤️❤️Geno- Love your 1st Cousin Dawne

I have put off writing this because it makes this so real - too real and still very hard to wrap my mind around. Kim, Eric, Troy and to Geno's children...you have my condolences and prayers of support. I honor Geno's life by remembering all the good times we had as late night talking, tea-drinking friends - solving all the problems of the world - like 2 old people, and sharing each others confidences and showing up for battle, emotionally as the best of friends. There are also countless times of hanging out and having fun, sharing side splitting laughter till the tears ran down our faces. I will hold it all very close to my heart. I still cannot imagine a world in which he is absent. Now, I add Geno to my own cloud of witnesses on the other side. My dad loved him like he was his own - I hope his spirit was among the ones to greet him when he crossed over. Rest well Geno. I will miss you forever. ..Court
Our heartfelt condolences. May God grant you comfort and peace.

Geno, I struggle to write these words because it is profoundly heartbreaking to me to accept that you are gone. It seems like yesterday when we started our journey together over 30 years ago. You were my best friend, my husband and partner in life. The precious memories and love we shared will forever be in my heart. Although we did lose our way on our life's journey together, we are truly blessed to have created our beautiful children Christopher, Jaeden and Zahrya. It is of great comfort to me to know you are now with our son Christopher in heaven. As their father, your loving spirit will always comfort, protect and guide Jaeden, Nolan and Zahrya throughout their lives. Rest In Peace Geno..You are finally free and forever in my heart..Love always..Kim
My deepest heartfelt condolences to Troy on the loss of his twin Geno. My fondest memory of Geno is that hot summer day when Troy brought him to meet our family. He wasn't shy. You saw his excitement and curiosity in his face. We saw his charismatic and handsome smile right away. He listened and shared a couple of laughs. He will not be forgotten. May God give Troy the strength to cope with his and to continue to be strong for Geno's children and their families. I can't imagine what that feeling would be like of losing my twin. Troy your twin Geno will live on in spirit and will always be with you. Find comfort in the memories that you shared over the years. Remember my family is here for you. #TwinPower With lots of love, Deborah and Jennifer and our families.

Since I was a child you always checked on me from visiting me upstate, to University of Hartford, to Baltimore and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOU FOR IT! I will cherish the many talks we've had where your warmth and logic comforted me. Last we talked, you were checking on the girls and I bc/the bridge had collapsed. As soon as I answered you said, "I was wondering if you were going to answer the phone or not"...we chatted briefly and before our call ended you said, "I just want you to know, love my nieces!!" I responded, "We love you too uncle"...had I known that would be the last time I'd ever talk to you..🤍🕊️TyChé
Sending my most sincere condolences in this time of difficulty. Geno has touched many lives, and his story is clearly everlasting. I had the privilege of speaking with Brother Eugene and found him to be a warm and kind man. I am lifting up the Family in prayer at this time. May God have mercy on his soul. Elder Geoffrey Bronx, New York
It's hard to find the right words to say. Geno was a unique person who made a lasting impression in my life. I will miss our conversations, though it has been years. He always had a story to tell, whether it be about Brooklyn life and his siblings, or rides on his motorcycle, or just going to get a haircut, he always had something to talk about, and could hold a conversation with anyone. And as someone else mentioned, no matter how hard you tried to stay mad at him, you just couldnt... One thing I can say without a doubt is nothing made him more proud, or happier than his children. His face used to light up when he spoke about them. From hearing about them in elementary school to adulthood, his entire demeanor would change talking about their accomplishments, no matter how big or small. This always stood out to me about him. Condolences to the family. -Steph

Man I am going to miss you Doc. I am. And I do. Even in our not talking, I missed you. Time is what was taken for granted. It cannot and it will not. It has that way of reminding us, that we should not. Being of 7 siblings, that I was not lacking. Geno, found a spot as best friend/other brother. When we purchased our first home, first came the movers and the next hour was Geno "what you need to me to do Doc?". (Doc was our tag for the other) "Go somewhere and find a TV/stereo". I feel like I am babbling because there are sooooooooo many shared memories and first. I love you Doc and I will forever choose to remember our "best times ". Get some rest my brother.

Geno, in an instant's breath you slipped away, no chance for farewells, no words to convey, silent goodbyes now forever unspoken, leaving hearts shattered, spirits broken. Those we love can never be more than a thought away... for as long as there is a memory Geno lives in our hearts to stay. I remember babysitting my Geno and Troy (highly active boys) and let me tell you there was never a dull moment watching those two. But now Geno, you are among our ancestors, please help to watch over those who are still here. Love you always. Nicey Psalm 34:18

I really don't want to write this -- and can't believe I am doing so.... My heart is absolutely broken and utterly shattered. I can hardly believe that the irresponsible behavior of a killer, drag racing a car, has taken the life of such a remarkable human being....
On Sunday, May 19, 1968, two little bundles of joy came home, swaddled in the most gorgeous white baby buntings, and gave me my second and third BabySibs. They immediately brought SO much joy to their three older siblings. Tyrone was seventeen years old, I was almost fifteen, and Kim was almost twelve. Thus began an almost fifty-six year love affair. Geno and Troy became my best little buddies. Whether it was a walk to the supermarket or whether they spent a week with me when I was an undergraduate at Vassar College, I never tired of my little Preciouses tagging along. We spoiled them shamelessly and unapologetically.
Geno was a loving and bright boy. Troy and he spent a weekend with me when they were nine. Troy, as was his habit, was in bed by 9 pm. The night owl and I would stay up until 3 or 4 am, though. I was stunned when we watched "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolff" -- and Geno completely understood all of the complexities of that classic movie. It remained a favorite of his.
In late August 1996, while I was busy raising my two Preciouses, Jason-Eric and Lani, alone as a divorced, custodial parent, acute myelogenous leukemia swooped down on me like a tornado. Thus began a five-year battle that I ultimately won. I was discharged after a twenty-eight-day hospitalization. Geno drove down to Manhattan from his home in Connecticut, to drive me home to Brooklyn. "It was summer when you went into the hospital, probably in your shorts and flip-flops, and it's now Autumn, so I've come to take you home". He was totally correct about my attire, it was chilly, and he was an absolute godsend. That was so emblematic of his selfless, giving nature.
Geno was the straw that stirred the drink. Whether it was a barbeque at his home or a bar crawl, there was never a dull moment with this gregarious, but humble, man. Of my three brothers, Geno and I were most alike. He brought SO much cheer to those who were in his midst. There were very few that he didn't like -- and if he didn't like you, there was a solid reason.... I will sorely miss my 'BigHead' (it's a term of endearment; mine is bigger). Given that Geno's death comes less than two months after my 'first baby', Lynette Forté Reid (1964-2024) died -- this is almost unbearable....
Rest well, Bruh-Bruh.
Beautiful description of Geno. He was a good soul. I will always cherish my memories of PS8 and running around the streets of Brooklyn Heights with him and Troy after Boy Scouts. Geno will be missed and his memory will be a blessing.
My sincere condolences for the passing of Geno. My prayers go out to the family and always remember God is merciful and prayers will comfort you during this time of bereavement. Rest in peace Geno. Dawn Sykes (Midwood Highschool classmate)
