Mrs. Jacqueline Anderson Cameron, of Richmond, VA, departed this life peacefully on Saturday, February 24, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 15, 1928, in Warrenton, VA, the eldest child of the late Charles Edward and Helen Elizabeth Ervin Anderson.
Jackie graduated with honors from Rosewood High School in Warrenton in the late 1940s, and then earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Virginia State College (Virginia State University) in Petersburg, VA four years later. It was there that she met, and later married, Wilburn Macio Cameron, Jr., her devoted husband of 60+ years.
As newlyweds, they moved to Nashville, TN, where Wilburn "Doc" began his career in dentistry at Meharry Dental School, and the couple welcomed their first child, Wilburn Macio Cameron, III (Trey), to the world in 1954.
The family moved to Stuttgart, Germany, where Doc, a US Army captain, served for two years after graduating from dental school. She returned to the US in 1957 after Jackie's brother was tragically killed in a plane accident while serving in the USAF. After a brief stint teaching in Maine, She eventually settled with the family in Richmond, VA, where their second son, Charles, was born in 1959.
Jackie followed her passion for teaching, and loved her students throughout her career in Education. She first worked as a teacher at Fairmont Elementary School, but also served as a counselor at Chandler Middle School, and as a Curriculum Specialist at Albert Hill Jr. High School. After earning her Master's Degree in Education in the 1970s, she rose to Assistant Principal, and finally to Principal. Jackie retired from the Richmond Public School System as Principal of Binford Middle School in 1995.
During her extended retirement, she enjoyed playing cards, going to casinos with her friends, and traveling the country. At the time of her death, Jackie was an active and highly respected member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, The Links Incorporated, and The Parliamentary Law Club, all known for sponsoring scholarships and community activism.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Wilburn M. Cameron, Jr.; brother, Charles Richard Anderson; sister, Helen Williams Taylor; and foster sister, Maryanne Gordon Joseph. Jackie leaves to cherish her memories, her sons, Wilburn M. Cameron III, Esq., and Charles Anderson Cameron; numerous nieces and nephews; and many devoted friends.

To the Family of Mrs. Cameron, Mrs. Cameron was my first principal at Binford Middle School (RPS). She led by example. Mrs. Cameron took "great" pride in professionally running Binford. She was fair and loved children. Mrs. Cameron's legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known her. May the care and love of those around you provide comfort and peace to get you through the days ahead—my most sincere condolences. Marjorie Watts Valentine Retired RPS Teacher
