Oh my gosh! I am just finding out about MS. Haliburton's demise. We were joined at the hip. I remember when She was first hired at SSU. We ran into a vicious group of vigilante alumni. Joy defended herself and the University. She remained steadfast and let the Holy spirit lead and guide her. She forgave them and continued her job. We loved her at Savannah State University.
I am so sorry for the loss is MS. Haliburton. I was a student worker at Savannah State. When I was going through emotional and personal issues, she was my rock and gave me the strength to continue my studies.
Former SSU student.
I knew Joy from High School except we all knew her as 'Josie'. She was a friend to all and always a 'Joy'. I was so saddened to hear of her passing. Prayers of comfort and peace to family and friends. RIP Josie

RIP Josie. We met in Elem school . U would meet me at the swings and talk kid stuff. U will be missed. Prayers for your family. God Bless them during this time.
I am so sorry for your loss. Josie and I knew each from the second grade on. We played together. Mostly at her house. She only came to my house once. She was afraid of our very friendly golden retriever. I always tried to reassure her but she always thought of Belle as a big dog and didn't want to come. In junior high and high school she blossomed into one of the very cool kids. I was lucky enough to be in choir with her in 11th and 12th grade and got to hear her solos. I was so happy to reconnect with her for a bit on Facebook and see that she had only gotten cooler and more lovely. All my thoughts are with her friends and family.
My heart and prayers go out to the family. RIP Josie! (Pat Kyger TAHS class of 77)
My heart and prayers go out to the family. RIP Josie!
I am beyond sad at the passing of my life-long friend. We met in 7th grade science class and became fast friends. As adults we would go years sometimes without seeing each other but when we did it was as if no time had elapsed. I am thankful for all the memories and saddened that a future visit we had discussed will never transpire. I am so grateful to have seen her last fall. I am so grateful to have known this vibrant, intelligent, passionate, determined, warm and wonderful person! I will always feel a void in my life without her presence. Rest In Peace, dear friend. My love and deepest condolences to Josh and all of her family. Lauren

Joanndra, Josie, Joy. 3 names but the same woman. I came to know her in 1973 in high school. I was a junior the first day of school in a new environment. Josie befriended me right away and we became life long friends usually joined at the hip. Though school and jobs may have separated us physically for lengths of time we always remained in touch. We always talked about family, especially Josh who was her pride and JOY! Josh said to me that God needed her more than he did. Indeed! Josie has her coveted job forever I will always love her and miss her forever. Bask in your greatness my friend. Donna C. Kiser

She was a joy and pleasure to work with at Savannah State. With her, the motto that our illustrious president, Dr. Carlton Brown, so eloquently used to say, "You can get anywhere from here". She did a great job as far as raising funds for the institution. She was the consumate professional and a real gem. I enjoyed working with her. She was a team player and worked well with the administrative staff.

Joy brought me to VSU and taught me so much about hard work, dedication, and compassion. Early on, she sent me to meet an elderly alumni to discuss an endowment. At that time, I thought the task could have been handled differently, without a personal visit. The in-person visit, however, turned out to be one of the most beautiful, rewarding experiences of my career and for that I'll forever be grateful. We will miss you Joy. God bless you and your family. -Bart Blanks
Josh - I offer you my sincere condolences and pray for the strength to make it through this difficult time. I worked with Joy at Virginia State and can't count the conversations we used to have about you. She loved you with all her heart and believed in the man (at the time) that you were becoming despite the obstacles. And when you blossomed, she was so full of pride. We talked of you quite often. May you never forget her love and dedication to you and may God bless you continuously. Robin C. Baughan
Sorry for the loss of a very sweet lady with a beautiful, humble spirit while working at Savannah State. Shebluved up to her name, "JOY". JOY to the World, all the boys and girls. JOY to the fishes in the deep blue sea. JOY to you and me. She was kind, and had such a gentle soul. She held her emotions in check when dealing with tough alumni. The hardest worker on campus. We will miss you.
