Obituary For Merle Eugene Brown

Merle Eugene Brown, 75, of Henrico, departed this life September 18, 2024. He was the son of the late Rudolph Brown Sr. and Vivian Brown.

Merle was raised in Henrico County. He graduated from Virginia Randolph High School and joined the U.S. Army. After being honorably discharged from the Army as a Military Police, he relocated to Chicago, Illinois where he met and married Georgia Reed. From this union was born two daughters, Roshanda and Sharonda Brown. Merle attended Central YMCA College where he obtained his AAS degree in Respiratory Therapy . He worked as a Respiratory Therapist for twenty-six years. Merle also taught Respiratory Therapy at Marion College. During this time, he went to Radio Broadcasting School in Chicago, Illinois where he became a DJ while also working for the City of Chicago as a Police Detective for over twenty years.

Merle loved jazz and football. Some of his favorite past times were spent relaxing, listening to “Ty Bailey's Jazz” and watching his favorite football team.

Surviving are his daughters, Roshanda Brown and Sharonda Brown; sister, Minta Brown, two brothers, John Brown (Sherl) and Rudolph Brown Jr.; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Pilgrim Journey Baptist Church, 7204 Bethlehem Road. Interment private. Arrangements by Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd.

Sending Condolences and Prayers to the family for your loss. I have the pleasure of working with Merle for years at the Chicago Police Dept Public Housing Unit located in Cabrini-Green. Merle was and will always be be know as the "Real Police". Getting there as a young man I was blessed to work with senior officers like Merle who showed me the right way to be the police. Actually caring about the community and trying to make a difference. Gone but Never Forgotten!!!

Merle was an amazing person and had a wonderful life. There are no words for his legacy left at Virginia Randolph High School. Merle, you ran a good race. I will always remember how he attempted to keep us all smiling. His shining personality will always remain in our hearts. Rest my brother, you will be missed. I am grateful to have known you.

Merle I can't stop thinking about you. You was always there for me whenever I needed you. You was a great dad to my nieces Sharonda and Roshanda. You was a great artist who could draw a person just like they looked and also a person that could teach you how to do just about anything. When thinking about you there is so much I can say about you like the great apple pies you would make and all the other things you could make. I know for sure I will definitely miss you and all the phone conversations we have had over the years. You will always be that special person to me smart, intelligent, and a person that could just about anything always worked 3 jobs at one time. When you get to heaven tell your brother in law Darwin , which was my husband hello for me . .
