Obituary For Pearl Alistine Hackett

Pearl Alistine Hackett was born on March 24, 1926 in Richmond, Virginia and passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2020. She was born to the late Doc Jefferson and Ida Hall Hackett. All her life, she has resided at 1504 W. Leigh Street in the historic Jackson Ward of Richmond, Virginia and was the oldest of four children (Charles Sr., Frances and Lloyd). She is a product of the Richmond Public School system and a proud 1943 graduate of Armstrong High School. Her high school had a book called “Spirit of Armstrong Class Prophecy”, it stated “Pearl Hackett will become Secretary to the President of the United States, Alfred L. Brown”. After graduation, she studied social work for 2 years at Virginia Union University. Pearl was also very smart in mathematics. Pearl accepted Christ at an early age and joined Moore Street Missionary Baptist Church. She served as a member of the Sisterhood Committee for many years. Pearl retired as proofreader for a printing company. After retirement, she worked at Miller & Rhoads retail store as a shipping receiving clerk. Later, she began working for the Virginia State Department of Taxation as a Tax File Clerk for several years. Pearl was an avid sports fan and traveled on numerous bus trips to watch the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Bullets play at Capital Centre in Landover, Md. For her, the trip was no fun without shopping. She was a “fashionista” and still wore her gold ankle bracelets every day. At 1504 W. Leigh St, the kitchen was the main hub of the household and Pearl enjoyed cooking. One of her specialty desserts was “Strawberry Shortcake” with whipped cream frosting made with half-half. Up until her last day, Pearl continued to cook for herself and her sister Frances. Pearl was a member of the Ninon’s Whist (card) Club for 42 years. She was a strong independent lady who required little assistance. She had immense love for her family. She believed in maintaining family traditions. Pearl treasured and loved all of her friends and appreciated their relationships. Last week, Pearl celebrated her 94th birthday. None of us know the day or hour when we will be called to rest from our labor. Pearl received her call after a very brief illness and will be sorely missed by all of us who loved her. Pearl was survived by her loving sister, Frances Elizabeth Hackett Sampson. She leaves behind to cherish her memories a devoted nephew, Dr. Charles J. Hackett, Jr.; devoted nieces Anita G. Hackett, Loretta F. Hackett and Jill H. Dandridge (Jeff); 3 great nieces; 1 great nephew; 1 great-great niece; 3 great-great nephews and a host of other relatives, neighbors and devoted friends. We will miss you Pearl!! Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Private funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 6 at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
