Sallie accepted Christ as her savior very early in life and has been a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church since she was a young girl. She attended Richmond Public Schools, graduating from Armstrong High School in 1950. In addition to her parents, Sallie was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Calvin Edwards; granddaughter, Amber Michelle Edwards; two sisters, Gwendolyn Clay Harris and Joyce Clay Willis, aunt, Charlotte Clay Nash; nephew, Byron Harris and sister-in-law, Ann T. Clay. She leaves to cherish her memory two children, Anita Edwards Debnam (Terry) and Anthony Calvin Edwards Jr. (Vicki); three grandchildren, Shawn Dickerson, Travis Williams, Sr. (Theadra) and Ashley Debnam; three great-grandchildren, Travis Williams Jr, Trevin Williams and Nori King; brother, Clarence Clay Jr.; two nephews, Rodney and Eric Clay; two nieces, Evelyn Harris and Kenya Clay; brother-in-law, William Willis; devoted friend who she called her “other daughter”, Emma Jean Washington; ex-husband, James Franklin Green; other relatives and numerous friends.
