To the family: Jim and I offer our sincere condolences and continued prayers during this grief. Mrs. Garnett (Wallace) is truly an angel who will be treasured and honored by her many former coworkers, friends and loved ones she touched. I had the honor of working with Mrs. Garnett for six years at Bon Air. She was honored and respected by myself but the facility at large for her wisdom. She could always appreciate my sly sense of humor. For example, "Hello, Shirley? This is Barbara..." and her laugh would fill the room! I'd joke and say, "No Ma'am--you'd never slap me for being sassy!" but I meant it! From her beautiful soul and that dynamic smile, I will always treasure the time and lessons from Mrs. Garnett. I thank God for the privilege to know Mrs. Garnett.

It was truly an honor to know Shirley for such a period of time but truly enjoyed her. May you rest in eternal comfort and peace. My prayers and with her family doing this time.
I first met Shirley in March of 1994 at Hanover Juvenile Correctional Center. Shirley was a wonderful co-worker. At that time we were working with the largest incarcerated boys. As a new employee, Shirley had your back. She threw a large young man against the wall when he began harassing others in the hallway. He said to her, "You stick together, don't you?" "You're right" she stated. This young man was my student and I was thankful when she stopped the harassment. That was Shirley, she always had your back. I will always remember her with her smile and earrings that matched every outfit. We worked together from 1994 until retirement except for a short time when we were working T different locations. Love and blessings to the family of Shirley. Shirley, you have fought the good fight so rest in peace. LOVE Sylvia Potter
Condolences to the family. I had the pleasure of working with Ms. Garnett for many years. She was dedicated to the hundreds of students she worked with through the years. She had a calming nature and never had a discouraging word about her coworkers. I know she will be missed by family and friends but her home is in heaven now. Peace and Blessings to the Family. Jesse Jones.

To know Shirley was to love her and wanted to be around her. To the family and James, we are feeling some of the same emotions as you. Shirley was my Sponsor in Altrusa. She was always sharing Altrusa and recruiting new members in. She had a great love for our organization and helped to develop it. But she loved and talked about and her family. What a wonderful person she was. So to God be the Glory, rest on Shirley. We loved you but God loved you more. Dorothy Thompkins, President of Altrusa Club of Capital City of Virginia.
To beautiful stepmom Shirley and Poppa James. I will miss Shirley so much. I was just telling a friend of my how she invited me and my husband Roc to go on the casino trip. And if you are looking for Shirley, you find her at the "Money Wheel" she love that game. Also I will miss her on Wednesday night. We watch our favorite show 'The Masks Singer". We call each other to find out what one or other think who is the singer. And for my pops James. I'm here if you need me for anything I love you dearly Popa James. I just can't believe it. My your beautiful soul rest peacefully. 🌹
I have always admired Ms. Garnett's kindness and commitment to improving the lives of others. She was always so thoughtful and considerate. I had the pleasure of working with her for 8 years at DCE and we spent many days discussing, laughing, and working to uplift our students and each other. Perhaps my most fond memories were of our staff cookouts at the end of every school year. Ms. Garnett was always sure to compliment EVERYONE on the dishes they cooked or provided....even if it wasn't the best (MINE). I am thinking about you and your family, you are missed. Nick LeReche

When we lived on Shari Dr., Shirley was my neighbor and friend. She was a multitalented woman. I've always respected her multitasking skills. As a mother, a wife, and an entrepreneur, Shirley founded a childcare center and was among the first tenants to operate a confectionery store at Richmond's Sixth Street Market Place.Shirley truly was a woman of many talents. We belonged to the organization, Twigs, Inc.together. Oh, what fun we had on our excursions to meetings with other chapters. Linda (Anderson) Dupee-Clark

Ms. Garnett was not only a coworker she was a friend and a dedicated educator. Her kindness and care towards the the vulnerable children which she served will always be a huge part of her legacy. So many young people she helped over the years have moved on to bigger and better things because of her and her dedication. I light this candle for you and pray that you walk triumphantly through the pearly gates way your "long white robe and your starry crown". I will miss your smile and grace. Rest in heavenly peace

Condolences to the Garnett-Wallace Family, Friends, & DCE Family: Ms. Garnett has always displayed a loyalty of love and kindness with her family , friends, & co-workers. She was always willing to help whenever, wherever, and for whomever. I light this candle in the celebration of her life with us for the allotted time given by God our Father. We understand, know your pain, emptiness, & desire to be alone at times. Just hold on.... It won't last always. See, God has known us before the womb and sees all our imperfection. She brought laughter, cried tears with us, shared ideals, and gave her all in everything she did. Thank you for sharing such a phenomenal woman with a beautiful heart, inner confidence and strength which reflects herself internally & externally. May "Peace" be still in your hearts and minds. LaVern and Tamara Ricks

To the Family - I felt the need to share this thought as it was shared with me.
Picture this: A table the length of a football field. Now, multiple that table length times three. There are people quietly seated on both sides of that lengthy table. They look from left and then to the right as others are gathering. God stands at a door and waits to assure all are present. At the appointed time, God smiles and opens the door. There stood Shirley Garnett Wallace with both hands raised aside to her face, and mouth wide open in amazement! Before her was everyone she knew that transitioned before her, both family and friends! Just know that she is not alone, and she'll be there when our door opens! May we all find peace, strength, and understanding in this great loss! Thank God for the time he allowed Shirley to be apart of our lives! Be blessed! From: T. Jones (former co-worker & friend)
