Thomas Guy Edwards, of Richmond, departed this life on December 15, 2022. He was born in Berryville, Virginia on March 5, 1937 to Kathleen Watkins Banks Edwards and Morgan Julius Edwards, Jr. of Millwood and Kilmarnock, Virginia, respectively. He was the third child born of that union and was affectionately called “Tommy Guy”. After several years, the family moved to Petersburg, Virginia where his father worked as an Extension Agent for Chesterfield County, Virginia, and his mother worked on the campus of Virginia State University. They were devoted members of Gillfield Baptist Church where he maintained his membership throughout his life. Tommy attended Peabody High School, where he excelled in basketball, playing on the school team and continued to play on the team at Hampton Institute (now University). During the summer of 1955, he met the love of his life, Connie Weldon, at Virginia State College (now University). They were married the following year and, of this union, their daughter, Lisa, was born. Tommy enjoyed his employment at the Richmond Redevelopment & Housing Authority where he served for 33 years, from 1961-1994. He retired as the Director of Operations for the agency. Tommy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Connie; parents and sister, Gwendolyn Edwards Allen; mother-in-law, Viola Reed Weldon Jones; brother-in-law, William Weldon; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gloria and Bruce Greene. Surviving are his devoted daughter, Lisa Edwards Burrs (Stacy); loving brother, Morgan J. Edwards (Evelyn); three adoring grandchildren, Guy Cousins (Tiasha), Naima and Morgan Burrs; two great-grandchildren, Zendé and Zaida Cousins; sister-in-law Odessa Smith (Fred); brother-in-law, Harry Weldon (Joan), sister-in-law, Dorothy Weldon; “second” brother and Godfather to Lisa, A. Hugo Word (Doris); eleven nieces and nephews and a host of beloved relatives and friends. A memorial service will take place at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel on January 5, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Save the Peabody High School Campus (the oldest Black high school in the United States), c/o the Peabody High School National Alumni Association, P.O. I have known Tommy Guy since 1978 when I joined Club Dejouir Incorporated and your mother, Connie introduced her Dique husband Tommy Guy to me. They were my dear and Loving Friends from the Richmond Chapter ever since.
Lisa, your father, Tommy Guy, was always dedicated and supportive as a Dique. He served with such Grace and Charm and was so much Fun to be around. I would always await the arrival of all my Friends, Dejouirs and Diques, from Richmond Chapter at all Conclaves.
I watch the Streaming Service from my medical appointment and apologize for my lack of presence.
He will be sorely missed and remembered with many food memories. I Pray that the Memory of his beautiful soul help you find strength, know Peace and Comfort!

Tommy Edwards will be greatly missed. He took me under his wings and we would spend time talking about sports, work, politics and family. He loved his family! He made it all seem so simple over cocktails. I never heard him say a disparaging word about anyone. May God Bless his family and I send my deepest condolences.
