Hello, everyone. This reading is from Sherman Bernard of Tougaloo College, Alpha Phi Alpha, Gamma Upsilon.

"I can tell you that my fraternity brother, Charles Griffin, was a good frat, but he was a better bro. I hope you appreciate what I'm saying.
At the Loo, also known as Tougaloo College, I knew Charles to be Smart and Smooth; But that nickname was already taken, so, we affectionately called him Griff.
Charles and I had a number of philosophical conversations about life, the meaning of life, and the pursuit of happiness. I figured if anyone could get a good handle on these questions, Charles would. He was the type of person who was going places. His eyes were always on the prize.
When I was going to school at Ole Miss, Charles always invited me to his home over the holidays. He'd say, "Sherm, if you're not going home to Natchez, you're welcome to stay over." He was insistent.
So, I took him up on his offer a few times. I learned that Charles had a wonderful family, particularly his beautiful mother. She treated me so well, I thought I was kinfolk. Her cooking was tops, and her meals were fit for a prince.
You see, thanks to my brother Charles, my days at Ole Miss were beautifully interrupted by visits to Charles.
Time and space separated many of the brothers from Gamma Upsilon, but when I think of my favorite frats from the Loo, Charles is on that list.
Just a little while ago, we were young men, up and coming college students; but spring and summer have passed us by, and now we are headed home.
Charles has preceded many of his brothers and sisters from Tougaloo College, but we hang on to the memories, the joy, and the laughter.
Rest in peace, Brother Charles.
To the family and friends of Charles, please accept my condolences."
