Mr. Cornelius LaBarren Sharp (Barry)
December 29, 1958 β March 2, 2024
Cornelius LaBarren (Barry) Sharp, born on December 29, 1958, in Jackson, Mississippi, was the cherished firstborn of Mr. Cornelius Sharp and Mrs. Billye Jean Sharp. Barry's journey of love and dedication began with his marriage to Deborah Ann Travis, and together they celebrated the joy of parenthood with their daughter, Kristen JaNelle Sharp. Some of you might know her as Girlie, as this nickname was given to her by her dad when she was a baby. Weβve never heard him call her Kristen, only Girlie. This was his baby girl and he wanted the world to know.
Barry's faith was a cornerstone of his life, as a devout member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he found solace under the guidance of Reverend G.C. Hunt, Reverend Emmet Burns and Reverend Jerry Young. He served the Lord dutifully, lending his voice to the choir and offering his service on the usher board.
Having graduated from Callaway High School in Jackson, MS, in 1976, Barry furthered his education at Hinds Community College, graduatng in 1978. His professional journey began at the Mississippi Department of Education where he invested his time and talents until his retirement in 2020. In his retirement, Barry embraced the simple joys of life, relishing in the company of cherished friends and family.
On Friday, March 2, 2024, Barry peacefully transitioned, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Kristen JaNelle Sharp; grandson, Ariel Cornelius LaBarren Thomas; his extended daughter, Olivia Travis; devoted parents Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius and Billye Jean Sharp; supportive brother, Keith Sharp (Mariah β deceased); caring sisters, Doris Sharp Good (William) and Kimberly Sharp Anderson (Douglas), along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Barry's memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of all who knew him
