Passed away September 24, 2021 at University Medical center in Jackson, MS.

Visitation and funeral service to be held Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 10:00a.m. funeral at 11:00a.m. Park View Church of Christ Clinton ,MS, burial to follow in Garden Memorial Park.

Gwendolyn Levera Shadwick Wansley went home to be with the Lord on September 24, 2021, surrounded by her family.

She was born on November 27, 1923, the third of seven children, to the union of Thomas and Bettie Shadwick.

With her great love for books, reading, and poetry, she became a librarian and worked at Jackson State University for 48 years. She was a great Mother, soft-spoken, kind, generous, and looked for the best in people. In 1954, she married her sweetheart, Robert Wansley, Sr. At an early age, Gwendolyn accepted Jesus Christ as Lord.

She is survived by her sister, Bettie Carolyn Lewis; two daughters: Hardrie Diggs (Robert, deceased), Anita Peterson (Daniel); two sons: Robert Wansley, Jr. (Nazzarrethunia), Paul Wansley; grandchildren: Lorrie Neal (Johnnie), Justin Peterson, Eric Peterson (Jalesa), Matthew Peterson, Ryan Peterson (Torrianne), Samuel Wansley, Joshuah Wansley, Paul Wansley, Nyla Wansley; great grandchildren: Eric Peterson, Jr., Jeremiah Peterson, Ryan Peterson, Jr.,Tobias Peterson, a host of nieces and nephews, and additional relatives and friends.

Preceding Gwendolyn to the Lord are her parents: Thomas and Bettie Shadwick; her sisters: Edna Salter (Lonnie, deceased), Mollie Lou Benton (Edwin, deceased), Tommie Jean Darden (Raymond, deceased), Barbara Thomas (Levi, deceased); and her brother, Lloyd Shadwick (Millie, deceased).

The visitation will be held on Saturday, October 2, 10:00 am, at Parkview Church of Christ, 5200 Clinton Blvd., in Jackson, MS 39202.

The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 am.
