Rosie Lee Perry was born on January 16, 1943 to Dennis and Ruth Rollins in Jackson MS. She accepted Christ at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. Later in life she returned to her hometown of Jackson, MS. and joined the Central United Methodist Church. Rosie received her primary education at the first public school for African American children in the city of Jackson, MS. Smith Robertson Elementary School (Now the Smith Robertson Museum and Cultural Center) She attended Lanier High School in Jackson, MS; then after moving to Chicago, IL she attended Farragut Career Academy High School. Her love for all people and her caring nature led Rosie to her calling in the field of Nursing. She began her long nursing journey as an LPN, then later graduated from Malcolm X College and became an RN. She worked most of her professional nursing career at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL where she later retired. At Cook County she made lifelong friends and was a teacher and mentor to many.
Rosie was a classy lady with natural elegance. In her youth she once was a contestant in the Miss Mississippi Pageant. Since her childhood she was always on the best dressed list. She grew up to be a woman with great style and taste. Rose worked hard to afford the finer things in life for her and her daughter, LaTanya. Louis Vuitton and Brahmin were two of her favorite brands. She found joy in being pampered and always looked forward to getting her hair done or getting a mani/pedi.
Rosie enjoyed cooking and putting her own spin on recipes. She was a risk taker and was always willing to try new things; a strong woman who was always there to offer guidance and strength. She had a purpose to know God, loved Sunday School and being part of The United Women in Faith community. She was a faithful giver who loved her family and had hopes that they would all stay connected.
Her friends and family will remember her for her kind heart and generosity.
Rosie peacefully transitioned at her home on February 14, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents Dennis and Ruth Rollins, siblings Leon Cannon, Louis T. Cannon, Dennis Rollins Jr., Clyde Rollins, James E. Rollins, Jerry Rollins and Berdia Mae McCall, Daughter LaTanya Cole, Husband Bobby Perry.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Grandson, Sean Cole of Jackson MS; Step-Children, Bobby Perry Jr. (Bulia), Chandra Perry-Bell (Floyd) both of Starkville, MS, Monica Perry Sumrall, Yonous Perry Smith, both of Chicago, IL; Sisters, Lizzie Jimerson of Ridgeland, MS and Dorothy Green (Fred) of Modesto, CA; Sister in Law, Patricia Cannon of Jackson, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
