Mrs. Betty Jean Williams King was born on April 23, 1942, to Mr. Willie Williams and Mrs. Rachel Glaze Williams in Doles, Georgia. She departed this life on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.
In 1958, Betty was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Willie James (Ted) King. This union was blessed with seven children.
Betty affectionately known as “Betty-Betty-Bett-Bett” and Grandma accepted Christ at an early age and joined the New Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Betty had many hobbies—cooking, fishing, playing spades or bid whist, but her favorite was gardening. She loved flowers of all kinds, but roses were her favorite. She could take one branch from a plant and re-root it to become a beautiful flower. Betty was a straight shooter. She didn’t mind telling you how she felt about the situation; she didn’t sugar coat anything. She didn’t mind letting you know what her feelings were. In other words, if you wore your heart on your sleeve, don’t ask for her opinion. She would give it to you whether it was good or bad.
Betty is preceded in death by her mother Rachel Glaze Williams, her father Willie Williams, her husband Willie James (Ted) King, her son Calvin King, her grandson Kenyon King, daughter-in-law Evelyn Norris King, her brothers Charlie, Jab, Pete, Jim Day, Curtis, Shag, Sonny, Izell, Cloise, and three sisters Mattie (Plook), Lula (Pinky), Mildred (Doll).
Betty leaves to cherish her memories her daughters Wonna King, Marilyn King Owens; her sons, Charlie (Rewanna) King, Demetric King, Heara King; her “daughter –sister”, Barbara Green (Cornell); her brother: Shebbie Williams (Lillie); granddaughters, Erica Williams (Latorris), Yshaka Gaint (Tim), Chiquita Green, Ayanna King, Olivia King, Coretta Norris, Arianna Trimble, Shawna Frier; grandsons, Atoria King, Cornell Green Jr., Kieran King, Tonyell Green, Niko Green, Tony Thomas, Jermaine Frier; Jaivius and Cinnamon Parker, Desmond Hall, Deja Williams, Nori Hall, great and great-great grandchildren whom she shared the honor of raising as her own; seventeen great grandchildren; two special nephews, Lane Williams (Amy), Floyzell Johnson, Jr. (Sabrina); sisters-in-law, Geneva Williams, Dorothy (Dot) Williams; special cousin, Dorothy (Honey) Adams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
