Deacon Willie Johnson, Sr. was born January 2, 1940, in Pulaski County, Georgia, to the late Ernest Johnson and Johnnie Mae (Essie) Jackson Johnson. He was a very kind, loving, humble and modest person that never met a stranger. He had an infectious smile that touched the heart of anyone that had the privilege of being in his presence.
Deacon Johnson gave his life to Christ and joined the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Hatley, Georgia, where he dutifully served as a member the Usher and Deacon Boards.
Deacon Johnson was a retired farmer and enjoyed his retirement to the highest. If he was not at home sitting on his porch with his beloved dog, Boss Man, or at church, he could be found on the dam of a pond or beside the road at a “fish creek”. He loved fishing and would share his “catch of the day” with everyone.
Deacon Willie Johnson, Sr. decided he had cast his last rod and threw in his last fishing line on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. He peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by the family he loved so dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughters, Johnnie Mae Chancey, Susie Mae Johnson and Ella Mae Johnson; his brothers, Porter Melton, Irvin Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Charlie Johnson and Leroy Johnson; his sisters, Ella Mae Bivens, Susie Mae Johnson, and Annie Mae Johnson.
He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife Paulene Sherman Johnson (They shared a marriage of 56 years); his sons, Henry Glenn, Willie Johnson, Jr., Leroy Johnson, Andrew Johnson; his daughter, Justine Jeffrey. Deacon Johnson loved his siblings so much, he named his children after their uncles and aunts; a sister, Ernestine Deshazor; additionally, he leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces, neighbors and friends.
