The funeral services for the late Mrs. Dorothy Jean Davis of 1016 S. Gordon Street, Ashburn, Georgia, who departed this life on Friday, August 16, 2019 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia, will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from the Greater St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Ashburn,, Georgia with the Bishop Willie Frank Prather II officiating. Burial will follow in the Westside Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.
Elder Dorothy Jean Dean Davis was born on March 11, 1935 to the late Annie Mae Daniels in Cordele, Georgia. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, U.S. Army World War II Veteran, Private Russell Daniels
Dorothy was educated in the Crisp County public school system.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Luther James Davis, Sr.
Dorothy worked at many different stations throughout her life. As a young girl, she worked at the old Davis Brothers Restaurant as a waitress; as time went on, she worked at Wendell Roberson Farms; in her later years, she worked at Ashburn Health Care as a Nurse Aide, and as an independently contracted Private Nurse Aide.
Elder Davis accepted Jesus Christ into her life at an early age. She and her beloved husband, Deacon Luther J. Davis, Sr., founded the Temple Church of God which was a part of the Church of God Apostolic (C.O.G.A.) organization for many years. In the early 90’s, Elder Davis, her husband, and her eldest grandson moved their fellowship to the Evangelistic Tabernacle Church of God Apostolic and served faithfully under the leadership of Bishop Arthur L. West. Later on in her Christian walk, Elder Davis transitioned her fellowship and membership to Mt. Calvary Church of God Apostolic, under the leadership of her eldest son, Bishop Willie Frank Prather, II. She served faithfully until she was called home to Glory on August 16, 2019 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia. Her loving husband, Deacon Luther James Davis, Sr., a daughter, Dora Jean McGee (Prather), and a stepson, Luther James Davis, Jr., have all preceded her in death.
Though we mourn, we do not mourn as others who have no hope of Eternal Life. Instead, we rejoice over another soldier in the Army of the Lord going home to Glory. We say good-bye to a precious mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, friend, and faithful servant of God. Her loss will be felt by many, and we will miss her dearly.
Elder Davis leaves to honor and cherish her memories two sons, Bishop Willie Frank (Betty) Prather II, Tommy Lee Prather, both of Ashburn, Georgia; a stepdaughter, Carrie Mae White of Jacksonville, Florida; eleven grandchildren, Fernando L. (Erica) Prather of Omega, Georgia, Willie Frank (Donna) Prather III of Fitzgerald, Georgia, Tyrone A. McGee, Casandra McGee, LaTonya McGee, all of Detroit, Michigan, Timothy E. Prather of Abbeville, Georgia, Shane Prather, Reginald M. Prather, Justin (Shanna) Prather, all of Ashburn, Georgia, Zakevian (Cherelle) Prather of Valdosta, Georgia, Kemiyah Prather of Tifton, Georgia; eighteen great-grandchildren, nine great great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
