On May 12, 1967, the world was blessed with the birth of Yolanda Rosetta Hill, a cherished daughter of Mr. Calvin Hill and the late Mrs. Johnnie Mae Evans Hill. From her earliest years, Yolanda exemplified determination, grace, and a love for learning. She proudly graduated from the Worth County High School as a member of the Class of 1985, setting the foundation for a life devoted to excellence and service.
Her educational journey continued at the esteemed Albany State (College) University “the unsinkable” Ram Nation where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, followed by a Master’s degree in Special Education. Never one to settle, Yolanda pursued her passion for education even further, attaining both her Educational Specialist degree and her Doctorate of Education from Argosy University on June 4, 2005. Through every milestone, Yolanda’s pursuit of knowledge reflected her unwavering commitment to personal growth and to uplifting others, leaving a legacy of scholarship, leadership, and inspiration.
Dr. Byrd was a devoted educator whose passion for teaching touched countless lives. She began her career in 1992 with the Dougherty County School System and later returned to her hometown, where she faithfully served until her retirement after 30 years with the Worth County Public School System. Education was not just a profession for Yolanda, it was her calling. She poured her heart into every lesson, every classroom, and every student, treating each child as if they were her very own. Her love for teaching and her unwavering belief in the potential of every child left a lasting legacy of knowledge, encouragement, and inspiration that will continue to live on in the generations she nurtured. Beyond the classroom, she mentored colleagues, uplifted her community, and inspired all who crossed her path to strive for excellence and embrace the power of education.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and became a faithful member of New Beulah Grove Baptist Church. Her faith remained the guiding light of her life, shaping her character and sustaining her through every season. She served with love and devotion, always striving to live as an example of grace, kindness, and steadfast belief in God.
Yolanda’s life journey was made even more beautiful when she embraced the gift of motherhood. She poured her heart and soul into nurturing her beloved children, Kierra Hill and Akeem Byrd, and she lovingly embraced her step-son, D’andre (Shanequa) Woods, as her own. To Yolanda, being a mother was not just a role but a divine calling, one that brought her immeasurable joy, purpose, and pride. Her children were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment of watching them grow, guiding them with wisdom, unconditional love, and the values she held dear.
Yolanda lived a life deeply rooted in service to others, guided by her unwavering faith in God. Her commitment to her community was evident in all that she did, as she gave generously of her time, talent, and heart through service. She was a proud and devoted member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Sylvester-Worth Alumni Chapter of Albany State University, Al Rakim Court #31, Order of Eastern Star Pride of Sylvester Chapter #477, as well as the Dicena Searles Assembly #176 and Heroines of Jericho. To Yolanda, serving others was more than a responsibility; it was an extension of her walk with Christ and a reflection of her belief in living a life of purpose. Through these affiliations, she worked tirelessly to inspire, empower, and uplift those around her, leaving a lasting impact on every life she touched. Her dedication to faith and public service will continue to live on through the organizations she loved and the countless people she inspired.
On Saturday, September 20, 2025, God in His infinite wisdom called home the spirit of His faithful servant. As she entered her heavenly reward, she was lovingly embraced by her mother, Ms. Johnnie Mae Hill, who welcomed her daughter with open arms. Reunited with loved ones who went before her, she now rests peacefully in the eternal care of her Heavenly Father.
Yolanda’s memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of her beloved children, Kierra Hill, Akeem Byrd, and D’andre Woods; her precious grandchildren, Kyren Hill and Khijah Goodman, who brought her endless joy; a devoted family who will continue to honor her legacy, her siblings, Stephanie Hill-Jackson (Michael), Reginald Laughlin, Jeffery (Tracy) Laughlin, Jocelyn (Jamie) Spates, Steven (April) Walker, and Cassandra Oliver; special niece and nephew, Ki’ Maya Jackson and Keyshawn Jackson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who were blessed to know and love her.
Yolanda’s spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of all who carry her memory in their hearts.
