Mrs. Minnie Lee Crockett, daughter of Sallie Walker and Johnnie Mack, was born on March 24, 1932 in Ashburn, Georgia.
Minnie Lee, affectionately known as “Honey”, attended school in Ashburn, Georgia before moving to Cleveland, Ohio with her best cousin, Charlie Mae. Her oldest daughter, Sharon was born in 1956. In 1957, she married Edward Bailey, Sr. and this union produced two more children, Edward Jr. and Sandra. After working several jobs, Minnie settled in at Huron Road Hospital Environmental Services until her retirement in 1996. In true Minnie fashion, she returned to the workforce a short time later at Brae View Manor until 2007.
Minnie was well known for her nurturing, yet feisty, personality that was guaranteed to bring anyone in her presence joy and laughter. Minnie had a beautiful and unique bond with each of her children and grandchildren. She was known throughout her family for blessing everyone with a nickname.
Family was Minnie’s number-one priority. She enjoyed throwing parties and getting everyone together for a home-cooked meal with her Blues playing in the background. Her best dishes included collard greens, macaroni & cheese, candied yams, sweet potato pies, and most of all, her fried chicken. She also looked forward to going home to visit her siblings and extended family in Ashburn.
Minnie was truly a beautiful spirit inside and out. Her health began to decline in 2017, and eventually her daughter, Sharon, became her full-time caregiver. On August 25, 2021, Minnie Lee Bailey departed from this life surrounded by family and friends.
Minnie is preceded in death by her parents and 10 siblings. She leaves to cherish her memories with her husband, Edward Bailey, Sr.; her three children, Sharon Crockett, Edward Bailey, Jr., Sandra Bailey; her grandchildren, Ravon Crockett, Jonelle Crockett, Timonie Bailey, Edward (Khamil) Bailey III, Joevonte Crockett, Janay Bailey, Damion Bailey; her great grandchildren, Jontrell Crockett, Maria Crockett, Brian Moore, Jr., Julian Harris, Kai Bailey, Edward Bailey IV; her great grand grandchildren, Journi and Jermani Crockett; her siblings, Louella Lawson, Kathleen Daniels, Clay (Daisy) Walker, Feltine Cross, all of Ashburn, Georgia, Ben (Lue) Walker of Columbia, South Carolina, Terry (Felicia) Walker of Alabama, Vetta (Hubert) Taylor of Fitzgerald, Georgia, and a host of extended family and friends.
