The funeral services for the late Mrs. Cherrie Jean Davis of 320 Stevens St., Apt. 244, Ashburn, Georgia, who departed this life on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia, will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. from the New Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ashburn, Georgia, with the Pastor, Reverend Westley Spears, officiating. Burial will follow in the Westview Memorial Cemetery in Ashburn, Georgia.
Ms. Cherrie Jean Davis was born on May 17, 1945 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Lee and Gladys Tharpe Davis. She was the second oldest of five children.
Jean was educated in the Turner County Public School System and graduated from Eureka High School in 1963. While at Eureka High, Jean played varsity basketball. After high school, she worked many years at the Egg House. She later attended Nurse Aide classes and received certification as a Certified Nursing Attendant. Jean worked at the Turner County Hospital and Ashburn Health Care nursing home.
At age seven, Jean gave her life to Christ and joined New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, and was an active member of the Mission Department, Pastor’s Aide Club, Usher Board and regularly attended Sunday School.
Cherrie was deeply loved by her family and friends, and was affectionately called “Ma Jean” by everyone. She was a loving person that kept a smile on her face.
On Wednesday, June 5, 2019, Jean was called home to be with her Heavenly Father. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Lee and Gladys Tharpe Davis, her daughter, Greta Suddette Davis, and her sister, Samolyn Davis.
She leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, Repunzel Davis; four grandchildren, Rick Gervin, Quentin Davis, Joshua Green, Keyanna Davis; eleven great grandchildren; three sisters, Patricia Washington of Sycamore, Georgia, Catherine (Warren) Wiseman of Tifton, Georgia, Rose Sutton of Ashburn, Georgia; two brothers, Tommie D. (Mamie) Davis of Ashburn, Georgia Larry (Bell) Sutton of Pearson, Georgia; a goddaughter, Teresa Bryant; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
