Gamble of Sylvester, Georgia, who departed this life on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Tranquility Hospice at Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell, Georgia will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. from the First African Baptist Temple of Hope in Sylvester, Georgia with the Pastor, Reverend Marcus Stroud, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Shepard Memorial Garden Cemetery in Sylvester, Georgia. Daisy Lee Hamilton Gamble, 87, resided in Smyrna, GA. She departed this earth early on Sunday morning, May 5, 2019 at Tranquility Hospice Care in Austell, GA after a brief but serious illness.

She was born March 29, 1932 in Sylvester, GA to the late Mr. and Mrs. James T. (Mary E. Lumpkin) Hamilton in Sylvester, GA. She was the middle child, with older sister Ruby, and baby sister Juanita. Her father passed in February 1938. Her mother later remarried Fred Dority, bringing his daughter Freddie Lee Holliday to complete their new family.

Mrs. Gamble was educated in the rural schools of Worth County, GA being taught for a time time by her mother's sister-in-law, Mrs. Casey (Louise) Lumpkin, her inspiration for teaching. When the family moved to Albany, Mrs. Gamble attended and graduated from Monroe High School (May 1949) and later Albany State College, (ASC) in May 1953 with a BS in Education. In college she met the one true love of her life, Mr. William C. Gamble. They married August 19, 1951, in her mother and step-father's living room in Albany the day after he graduated. She later obtained her MEd in Elementary Education from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI. Their union was blessed with two children, Verender Gail and Stephen Michael.

During her 38-year teaching career, she received numerous awards and recognition. Notably, Teacher of of the Year (Hillcrest Elementary School, Doerun, GA), and Teacher of the Year twice more, including representing Worth County. Her first teaching position was in Wadley, GA while living with her grandparents-in-law as her husband was away in the Korean War. Mrs. Gamble taught second grade through eighth grade, in addition to Head Start during summer months. She once recalled having eager, teachable, well-mannered, lovable, cooperative students, and was often heard saying she was 'having a ball' teaching them. Her passion for teaching often left her feeling as though she was soaring, and she wanted to take her students to those new heights. She always hoped her students enjoyed her classes as much as she enjoyed teaching them. She was known for taking them on field trips, to summer Bible camp in Alabama, and teaching Vacation Bible School at FAB. Other highlights she enjoyed with the students included end of year school closing events, plays, Christmas, Easter and graduation celebrations. And she was featured on the Amy Grant TV show pilot 'NBS's Three Wishes.'

Her greatest teaching accolade was having the Daisy H. Gamble Learning Center, Sylvester, GA built and dedicated in her honor January 2017.

Aside from residing in Sylvester nearly all her life, she lived in Detroit, MI, Newark, NJ, Tangerine and Lake Jim, FL, and in Oviedo, FL for a time. Her hobbies always included reading, arts and crafts, and bringing students (adults alike) to a higher level of learning. Her very first student was her stepfather, teaching him to write his own name and to read, as she was learning to the same.

She is preceded in death by her husband and her sister Freddie L. Holliday. Survived by her loving daughter, son and daughter-in law, Verender Gail Brown (Kissimmee, FL), Stephen M. and Alice Archey Gamble (Woodstock, GA). Her grandchildren Richelle R. Gamble, Justin W. Gamble (Rochelle Roberts, fiancée), and Haile S. Gamble all of Atlanta; god-granddaughter Darvi-Redding “Zipporah” (Bryan) Christian (Orlando, FL), and god-grandson John Simmons (FL), her great-grandchildren Jace K. Gamble, and god-granddaughter Rayah N. D. Christian. She leaves to mourn sisters Ruby H. Brown and Juanita H. Brown; 7 nieces, 5 nephews, and a host of other cousins, grand nieces, grand nephews, and loving friends. The family will receive friends at First African Baptist Temple of Hope on Friday evening from 6-8p.m.
