The late Mr. Willie Charles Leary departed this life on Friday, January 16, 2026. At the request of the family, the remains have been cremated. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. from the Shipp's Funeral Home Chapel, 501 W. Willingham St., Sylvester, Georgia. Pastor Vester Pittman will deliver the Eulogy.
Willie Charles Leary was born on October 11, 1949, in Ashburn, Georgia. He was the beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. Colquitt and Mary Brown Leary.
Willie graduated from Eureka High School in 1967 and later attended Albany State College. He worked as a skilled carpenter for many years and was known for his strong work ethic and craftsmanship. In addition to his trade, Willie was well known as a Disc Jockey and radio personality, affectionately known as “Super Soul,” and worked at WJIZ Radio Station in Albany, Georgia, bringing music and entertainment to many through the airwaves.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Carl Leary and Kenneth Leary; and his son, Keith Leary.
He leaves to cherish his memories his former spouse, Evelyn Edmondson; their children, Calandra Gamble, Tomicka Scott (Tony); his son Charles Johnson (Sara); six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brother, Jerome Leary; his special friend, Ola Baker; a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Willie Charles Leary will be remembered for his love of music, dedication to his work, and the lasting memories he leaves with all who knew and loved him.
