Funeral services for Deacon Kaponden Greene, 83, of Orangeburg, will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1065 Sprinkle Avenue, Orangeburg, SC 29115, with interment to follow at Belleville Memorial Garden, 2900 Belleville Rd, Orangeburg, SC.
Deacon Greene will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Deacon Kaponden McKinley Greene was born on August 29, 1942, in Calhoun County, South Carolina, to the late Reverend M.L.B. Greene and Queen Esther Greene of Orangeburg, South Carolina. He entered eternal rest on May 26, 2026.
Deacon Greene received his education in the public schools of Orangeburg County and graduated from Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School as a member of the Class of 1964. Throughout his working career, he was employed by the former Hygrade Meat Company, Southern Bread Company, and Claussen Bread Company. He later retired from Merita Bread Company after forty-two years of dedicated and faithful service.
Raised in Orangeburg, Deacon Greene joined Macedonia Baptist Church at an early age and remained a faithful and active member throughout his life. His commitment to God and his church was evident through his many years of service. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School teacher, member of the Prayer Band, participant in Bible Study, member of the Usher Board, and member of the Gospel Choir.
His leadership extended beyond the local church. He served as Vice Moderator and Moderator of the Andrew Chapel Educational and Sunday School Union. He was also a board member of the Mt. Pisgah Union, the Orangeburg Orthodox Baptist Association, and the Bull Swamp Live Working Convention. In addition, he served as Superintendent and teacher of the Baptist Educational and Missionary Sunday School Union and was an active member of the Deacons Alliance.
Deacon Greene leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Dr. Claudia S. Greene; one daughter, Mrs. Karen Denise (Christopher) Jiles of Mount Holly, North Carolina; one son, Kory McKinley (Sanchia) Greene of Arlington, Texas; two brothers, Reverend Isaac (Carolyn) Greene and Deacon Samuel (Francis) Greene; two sisters, Mrs. Zina Hampton of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Lena Brown of Mount Holly, New Jersey; four beloved grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Public viewing will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 1pm - 6pm.
