Funeral services for Mr. James Kenneth Payne, Jr., 69, of 867 Toby Creek Road, Barnwell, SC, will be held 11:00 am Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Simmons Funeral Home Chapel, 2868 Columbia Road, Orangeburg, SC. Interment will follow at 3:00 pm Friday, December 13, 2019 at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC.
James Kenneth “Kenny” Payne, Jr. went on to be with the Lord on November 26, 2019 at the age of 69. He was born on November 13, 1950 in Orangeburg, SC. Kenny was educated in the public schools of Orangeburg, SC and Bronx, NY. At the age of 15, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War in which he was awarded the Purple Heart. Upon returning to civilian life, he was employed with Met Life Insurance Company and the New York Department of Sanitation. Once he relocated to Orangeburg, he worked alongside his father as a master brick mason.
Kenny was preceded in death by his father, James Payne, Sr.; mother Mary Louise Goff; and brother, Abraham “Bunny” Payne. Kenny leaves to cherish precious memories: his wife Lovely Payne of Orangeburg, SC and a special friend Merlene Wilson of Barnwell, SC; one daughter Tiffany Kennetta Payne of Los Angeles, CA; one step-son Eric Whetstone of Durham, NC; six sisters, Idella (Gus) James of Plainfield, NJ, Sheliah Johnson of Williamsburg, VA, Lynda Payne of Charlotte, NC, Kathleen Payne of Edison, NJ, Lisa (Lonnie) Askew of Philadelphia, PA and Beverly Payne of Summerville, SC; step-mother Dorothy Payne and step-siblings Patricia, Eric, Melvina, Hezzie and Tamara, all of Orange-burg, SC; four grandchildren, Dee Tiairra Payne, Aaron Jahron Baker, Matthew Jeffery Baker and Zechariah James Baker; one lifelong friend and brother Ronald (Gloria) Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; one uncle, four aunts and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mr. Payne passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at his residence.
