Funeral services for Mr. Roosevelt Jackson, 80, of 121 Oasis Lane, St. Matthews, SC, will be held 1:00 pm Sunday, September 29, 2019 at Providence AME Church, St. Matthews, SC, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Patrick Millerson is officiating.
Mr. Jackson will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Roosevelt Jackson, son of Mrs. Hattie Bell Jackson Marshall, was born on October 19, 1938. Mr. Jackson entered eternal rest on September 24, 2019. He attended the public schools of Calhoun County in St. Matthews, South Carolina. Mr. Jackson retired from Cox Wood Preserving Company as a long-distance truck driver. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and traveling with his wife. He was very outspoken and was a friend to many.
Realizing the importance of the church, he joined Providence AME Church where he was a member of the Senior Choir, Steward Board, Trustee Board, Church School, and Lay Organization. He also served in other organizations: Central Conference Lay President, Wateree District Lay President, member of Sons of Allen, and a member of Edisto Masonic Lodge #39.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories his wife, Mrs. Mary M.B. Jackson of Orangeburg, SC; two daughters, Reverend Portia Alexander of Orangeburg, SC and Ms. Lovotus (James) Hicks of Columbia, SC; two sons, Mr. Andra Jackson of Orangeburg, SC and Mr. Darius (Tamara) Jackson of Dacula, Ga; one sister, Mrs. Jacqueline Marshall of Baltimore, MD; three brothers, Mr. William (Edith) Brooks of Baltimore, MD; Mr. Stewart Marshall, Alaska, and Mr. William Marshall, Charlotte, NC; 13 grandchildren: Dennis, Jr., Ashley, Austin, Marquise, Breana, Darienne, Shafari, Kalen, Andra, II, Ariel, Mia, Jon, and Leila; four great-grandchildren: Leonard, Jr., Keziah, Ailani, and Ariona; a very close brother and sister-in-law, Reverend Clarence Bookard and Mrs. Martha Bookard of Columbia, SC; his special goddaughter, Ms. Gail Jackson of Waldorf, MD loving caregivers, Reverend Cleo Owens and Ms. Bina Glover; and a host of family, friends and loved ones.
Visitation is 2:30 pm - 8:00 pm Saturday, September 28, 2019.
Friends may call at the residence of his wife, Mary M. Jackson, 121 Oasis Lane, St. Matthews, SC or Simmons Funeral Home & Crematory of Orangeburg.
