Obituary For Mr. Stephen Brunson

Funeral services for Mr. Stephen Brunson, 70, of Orangeburg, SC, will be held 11:00am, Monday, July 7, 2025, at Simmons Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel, 2868 Columbia Road, Orangeburg. Interment will be held 2:00pm, at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, with military honors.

Stephen Brunson, 70, was born on January 16, 1954, in Brooklyn, New York. He was one of five siblings, raised by his loving mother, Eartha Mae Brunson. His father was Leroy Brunson Sr. Both parents preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Leroy Brunson Jr., Eartha Mae Lawson, and Raymond Brunson. He is survived by his sister, Francine Brunson.

Stephen was a quiet, introspective man who found peace in life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed
gardening, watching sports and classic cowboy shows, and playing spades with family and friends.
Though he didn't socialize widely, those welcomed into his inner circle were deeply valued - each one
someone he admired and respected.

Stephen deeply loved his wife and her family. Though he didn't always say it aloud, he appreciated
their presence and support throughout his life. Known for his sharp sense of humor and quiet
strength, Stephen was a respected and steady presence to all who knew him. He also had a special
fondness for animals and shared a loving bond with his cat, Ethan.

Stephen was raised in Brooklyn, New York, and attended Boys and Girls High School, later attending
Job Corps. In 1973, he joined the U.S. Army, driven by a desire to provide for his growing family
and to serve his country. A dedicated and hardworking man, Stephen spent over 30 years employed with the United States Postal Service before retiring. Gifted with his hands, he had a knack for fixing things and later earned certifications in
locksmithing, welding, and plumbing - skills he took great pride in.

Stephen was married to his beloved wife, Aretha Brunson, for 49 years. Their enduring love was the
cornerstone of a family built on strength, loyalty, and care.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, survived by his devoted wife, Aretha Brunson; three daughters, Jennifer Hedges (Gerald), Joyce Brunson, and Stephanie Wooten; two sons, Stephen Bmnson Jr. (Gracey) and Michael Brunson; as well as a host of grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family members, and friends.

Stephen's life was one of quiet strength, steady love, and enduring presence. He will be deeply
missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

Mr. Brunson passed away Friday, June 27, 2025, at MUSC Health, Orangeburg.

Public viewing will be held Sunday, July 6, 2025, from 2-6pm.
