Private funeral services will be held for Mrs. Dorothy B. Bovian, 93, of Orangeburg, SC.
Mrs. Dorothy Bellinger Bovian was born June 4, 1926 in Orangeburg, South Carolina to the late Edward and Marie Williams Bellinger. She was called to eternal rest and peace on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at the Methodist Oaks in Orangeburg after an extended illness.
Mrs. Bovian was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Robert Bovian, Jr. They were blessed with one son, Bernard Russell “Stevie” Bovian; who preceded her in death.
She and her family returned to Orangeburg in 1987, after having lived in New York. While there, she was employed at Con Edison Power Company in the accounting department.
Upon returning back, she joined Williams Chapel AME Church under the leadership of Reverend Allen W. Parrott. Mrs. Bovain was very active in the church. She was a member of the Board of Stewards, Finance and Stewardship Ministry, Class Leader Union, Lay Organization, Chappelle Club, Stewardess Board 4, Women’s Missionary Society and the Pastor’s Welfare and Aide Society. She also sang on the Gospel Choir. She worked tirelessly and gave herself unselfishly both spiritually and monetarily. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 144th Church Anniversary.
Mrs. Bovain was a very diligent worker in the NAACP, where she raised large sums of money. She was also a member of the Progressive Club of Orangeburg.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Thomas Bellinger, Lucille Marcus, Lottie Bellinger Brown, Adell Bellinger Amaker, Albert Bellinger, Wilhelmenia Bellinger Jenkins, George Bellinger, Mary Bellinger Adams, Robert Bellinger and Ruth Bellinger Smith.
Mrs. Dorothy B. Bovian’s legacy will live on in the lives of those she touched. She is survived by her grandchildren: Bernard R. Bovian Jr., Yolanda Bovian Perkins, Tijuana Bovian, Todd McDaniel and Tracey McDaniel; great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a very dear friend Mrs. Freddie O’Bryant.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2020 from 2:00pm – 7:00pm.
