Obituary For Ms. Alberta Elaine Mack

Funeral services for Ms. Alberta Elaine Mack, of 1080 Ellis Avenue, NE, Orangeburg, SC, will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 28, 2021, at Simmons Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel, 2868 Columbia Road, Orangeburg, SC, with interment to follow in the Mount Zion Site (North Orangeburg A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Jamison, SC. The Reverend Annie G. Miller is officiating.

Ms. Alberta Elaine Mack, was born October 9, 1940 to Mr. Jacob Mack, Jr. and Hattie McDonald Mack. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Pruitt Health in Estill, South Carolina.

Alberta graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1960 and attended Claflin University of Orangeburg, South Carolina.

Alberta was employed by Farmers Insurance, Atlantic Life and Casualty Insurance Company and retired after 30 years of service with Aetna Insurance Company as an underwriter and supervisor. In her later years, she flourished as an educator at heart. After 25 years pf teaching at 184 Raphael Codero Y. Molina School in Bronx, New York, she retired and relocated back to her hometown of Orangeburg, South Carolina.

Alberta loved praising and worshiping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. At an early age in Orangeburg, she was a member of Williams Chapel AME Church where the Reverend Chapelle Davis was pastor. She became a member of the following churches in Harlem, New York: Emanuel AME Church under the leadership of Bishop Reid; Emanuel Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Thaddeus Goodin; Mount Nebo Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor William Daniel Gardener, Jr. and Elder Roger Watkins and First Corinthians and Agape Christian Center under the leadership of Elder Derek E. Porter, where she was honored as being named "Mother of the Church". She served diligently on the choir, Welcome Committee, as a Sunday Schol Teacher, New Membership Class and attended Bible Study. After returning to Orangeburg, she was a committed member of North Orangeburg United Methodist Church.

In her spear time, she was a great seamstress, enjoyed crocheting, knitting and was an excellent cook. Her favorite books of the Bible were Proverbs and Psalms; and she always left a quote with her sons that they will never forget "Always remember, the devil cannot stop a praying man"!

She was blessed with a large family some of who preceded her in death, her parents; sisters: Idella Corbit, Alice Mitchell, Mary Brown, and Mamie Brown; and brothers: Johnnie Mack, Jacob Mack, Moses Mack, Deacon Willie Mack and Deacon James Mack.

Alberta is survived by two loving and devoted sons, Hugh LaBrian Harris of Bronx, NY and Wayne (Lorraine) Douglas of Orangeburg, SC by way of Bronx, NY; two loving and caring sisters: Sarah A. Mitchell of Bronx, NY and Hattie Patricia M. Pitts of Orangeburg, SC; a loving and caring brother, Deacon David (Connie) Mack of Williamsburg, VA; loving sisters-in-law: Lula Mack and Ella Mack of Dublin, GA and Barbara Mack of Orangeburg, SC; caring godchildren: Nathaniel E. Pitts of Charlotte, NC, Lamont Robinson of Virginia, Sandra Elaine Mack and Deana Patricia Stroman of Orangeburg, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021.

The family will receive guests at the residence of her sister, H. Patricia Pitts, 1094 Ellis Avenue NE, Orangeburg, SC, (803) 570-0721, and her son, Wayne D. Harris, 1080 Ellis Avenue NE, Orangeburg. Masks must be worn when visiting the residences. Condolences may also be expressed to Simmons Funeral Home and Crematory of Orangeburg, SC.
