Funeral services for Ms. Mary Louise Huggins++ Keitt, 75, of 2519 Russell St., Orangeburg, SC will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Bull Swamp Baptist Church, 112 Purity Street, Orangeburg, SC, with interment to follow at Belleville Memorial Gardens. The Reverend Ephriam D. Stephens is officiating.
Ms. Keitt will be placed in the church one hour prior to service.
Ms. Mary Louise Huggins Keitt, the eldest of nine children and daughter of the late Leroy Huggins and the late Geneva Hampton Huggins, was born February 4, 1945 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She departed this life on Monday, March 9, 2020 at the Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg, SC.
As a child, she was given the nickname "Penny" becaause of her copper-colored hair. She was educated at the old Bull Swamp School and the public schools of Orangeburg County. She was baptized at an early age and has been a life-long member of Bull Swamp Baptist Church. Mary was a devoted member of the Senior Usher Board. She loved to sing and served diligently on the Usher Board Choir and other ministries in the church until she became too ill to participate. During her teen years, she sang quartet with her brother Henry and serveral other friends in a local radio ministry.
Mary was married to the late Jackie Keitt of Elgin, South Carolina.
She was employed at Sky City for many years as a head cook. Mary was also employed by the TRMC as a housekeeper in the Medical Arts Building until she became disable.
Her final days were spent sharing her faith and talking about the goodness of the Lord. Even in her own pain, she tried to encourage her children, grandchildren, other family members and friends and even those she didn't know.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, David Huggins; and two sisters: Doris Ann Huggins and Shirley Ruth Butler.
Mary leaves to cherish loving and fond memories, her children: Thurmond Keitt, Anthony Keitt, Gregory (Sylvia) Keitt and Avery (Angela) Keitt all of Orangeburg, SC and Sandra Keitt of Columbia, SC; three brothers: Henry (Esther) Huggins of Orangeburg, SC, Nelson (Shelia) Huggins of Charlotte, NC and Lavern Huggins of Conway, SC; two sisters: Regina Keitt and Sharon (Nicholas) Randolph both of Orangeburg, SC; three very special cousins who were raised as her sisters: Martha Carson of Orangeburg, SC, Sarah Shuler of Orlando, FL and Pernice Rockingham of Washington, DC; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a special friend and companion, Willie "Bud" Johnson of Orangeburg, SC; and devoted friend and caregiver, Valerie Duley, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
