I remember long days as we worked side by side doing our SHARP duties. The way you never failed to help anyone who came to you and at such vulnerable times made me proud to be your friend. I miss going and finding you in your office to vent and let you vent after a stressful or just plain boring meeting. You showed me how to be a great leader while being able to show empathy. I miss you and will never ever forget you. To your family I am so sorry for your loss, you raised a wonderful person who helped me more than I think he knew.

My deepest condolences to the Rich family. I met SFC Rich on his most recent deployment, where I witnessed his selfless dedication to improving the quality of life of his fellow soldiers within the deployed site community. He held various leadership roles and was a valuable American Red Cross volunteer. By the time he returned to the States, SFC Rich had hosted over 20 trivia sessions. Once, he dedicated a trivia category to his niece, titled, "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?" No team correctly answered all the questions. SFC Rich was always willing to step up and volunteer to help out, whether it was facilitating movie nights, helping out at a cookout, or replenishing the MWR coffee station. In the short time I knew him, he proved to be a dear friend—someone who willingly listened and gave sage advice, someone with whom I could discuss serious topics without being judged, someone who meant it and followed through when he said, "I've got you" or "I'm there for it." His zest for life was both infectious and inspiring. I will always feel blessed that I had that time with him, however brief it was, because I am a better person for having him as a friend. Thank you to the Rich family for sharing the light that was SFC Jeffery Rich. I will keep you in my prayers.

SFC Rich was a ray of sunshine. He always had a welcoming demeanor topped with a smile. He volunteered with Red Cross to assist with giving moral support to the soldiers and he enjoyed it. My condolences to the Rich family, though he left this earthly place, his memory fills every space. In your heart, he'll always stay, guiding you in a special way and with each sunrise and each sunset, remember his love for you , never forget. Though he's gone, he's never far, it could be a shining soul or a guiding star.
