Hiwatha Coleman Martin peacefully entered eternal rest on August 18, 2025, at age 74. Born in Somerville, Tennessee, to Elsie and Leftwich Coleman, she was the youngest of nine children who brought joy and light to her family from the very beginning. She was educated in the Fayette County School System and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee State University. She dedicated many years of her professional life as Pharmacy Technician until her retirement. Her greatest pride came from her family. She married Lawrence “Rudy” Martin in Nashville, Tennessee, and together they raised two beautiful daughters, Misty Nevils and Ashley Martin. Hiawatha’s love extended to her beloved grandchildren, Ryan Ashley Nevils and Phillip Nevils, II who brought immeasurable happiness to her life. Hiwatha is survived by her loving husband Lawrence “Rudy” Martin; dearly devoted daughter Misty (Phillip) Nevils and bonus son Ross Martin of Greenville, SC; grandchildren Ryan Ashley Nevils and Phillip Nevils II; sisters Modestyne Norment (Whiteville, TN), Claudette Tharp (Nashville, TN), and Barbara McCrary (Somerville, TN); brothers-in-law Dwight (Dalphene) Martin, and Paul (Anita) Martin; sister-in-law Cheri Patton; devoted sister-friends Yvette Boyd and Shirley Thomas as well as a loving circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Hiwatha was preceded in death by her cherished daughter Ashley Martin, and we find comfort knowing they are now reunited in eternal peace.

Ne Ne was my angel on earth she proved that family was not about a last name but about love laughter commitment and loyalty. She poured out so much love to my entire family she cared for us as if we were her very own. She always had that beautiful smile that warmed your heart each time you were around her. I will deeply miss her, but I cherish the beautiful moments we shared.
